Li a' Di he Deli h Mex-Tex in Style

Let me tell you about a place that' won my endle love: Li a' Mexican Re taurant on Bandera Road. The pace— oothing, modern and inviting. Warm, aturated jewel tone and wall bur ting with bold original artwork by Brother Cletu et the tage for memorable food. L...morei a' pay homage to both Mexican and Tex-Mex. Comida e tilo ca ero i elevated to exemplary tatu thank to beautifully executed recipe , fre h ingredient and a re pectful nod to tradition. The menu feature interior Mexican cla ic like Raja con Crema. Roa ted poblano pepper trip and auteed onion wim in a ilky, rich cream auce. Li a' ope are the be t I've had in Texa - fre h ma a pattie with a di creet lather of bacony refried . One topped with earthy, piquant cube of lean pork in perfect al a roja, the other crowned with richly piced papa with fre h chorizo. Both garni hed with cri p lettuce, fini hed with que o fre co and drizzled with Mexican crema. I felt "en ca a". I al o fell in love with Li a' two excellent al a - a vibrant, playful tomato errano, or a rich, roa ted jalapeño, onion and tomato number with low, lingering burn. Spinach enchilada are benchmark. The e e pinaca are clean, vibrant and luxuriou ly draped in cream, ided with veggie and excellent, fluffy white rice. Cla ic Tex-Mex enchilada ing, and San Antonian voted the chee e enchilada "be t in town". Li a' borracho bean get bacon, fre h pico de gallo, beer and re pect. Ye indeed, becau e the bean remain tender and whole at once, the broth eminently lurpable. The e frijole were al o named "be t in San Antonio". Pe cado a la Veracruzana i lovely. The auce, a well-balanced, complimentary blend of tomatoe , olive , pepper and pice doe n't overwhelm the mild fi h fillet . Taco al pa tor get an achiote marinade for a "toque yucateco," rich, flavorful and alive with fre h cilantro, cebolla and pineapple. I wa almo t at the corner taquería in the DF, tanding at an angle and biting my way to taco callejero heaven. Oh, and the corn tortilla . The flour are righteou , but the corn...oh my Aztec god . Hand made, light, tender- hecha a mano. Great corn tortilla are hard to find in San Antonio, flour tortilla kingdom. Attention to craft and authenticity are the norm here. Go to Li a' . Eat your way thru the menu. Enjoy the attentive, warm ervice. Be a di cerning Mex-Tex lover. The erver told me many of the regular are fixture - they eat here five and ix time a week. I miled, not one bit urpri ed. I under tood. I'm one of them now. view less

Where the local eat!

Jacala i probably one of the be t-kept ecret in San Antonio' Mexican food cene. Located in an out-of-the-way We t Avenue eatery, it' been in bu ine ince 1949. I've been eating there at lea t that long. When I have out-of-town gue t that the fir t place we go. ...more Their food i true Tex-Mex, and they're noted for their \"puffy taco \" ( a mouth-watering conncoction of pecially piced beef and hand-to ed tortilla ). But the 'coup de grace' i their Chee e Enchilada plate. Smothered in Jacala' ignature chili (the ta ty variety, not the uper-hot type), Jacala' Enchillada are 'to die for'. If you want to return to tell your friend that you've had the very be t Mexican foot money can buy, tell your waiter you want a Number 3 plate (their mo t popular). For the le er appetite, try the 'Lady' Special', or the identical 'Macho' Special'. Wa h it all down with a E pecial Maragarita, and you can truly go back having eaten the 'real thing'! A to the ervice; it' incomparable! Richard (now in hi 70 , ha been with Jacala ince he wa 18 year old. Hi protogee', Miguel, ha been there at lea t 25 year . Guera (pronounced Wera) ha been there at lea t a long a Miguel and run the econd tier of re taurant help with a profe ional touch. Want to how your ophi tication? Try to find the well-hidden face of Je u in the mural along the rear wall. A a hint: It' located in the tree where the 'Ro ita Bridge' cro e the San Antonio River. A further hint: It' on the right hand ide of the bridge. -0- view less

Really good enchilada

I fir t went to the re taurant for lunch ome time ago la t ummer with a co-worker that really loved the enchilada here. Back then I didn't go for the enchilada , which looked and melled good, but in tead I tried their chicken oup and the traditional puffy taco. One thin...moreg about puffy taco i that they are very ea y to me up when making but if done right they can be a good eat. And they were. The dough they u e wa ju t right in con i tency and upri ingly it did not come out oggy like other place . The chicken wa juicy and very flavorful. The oup wa al o really good and I wa told by the waiter that they make it daily and it typically run out by lunch time. I went back to Janitzio thi Sunday and luckily found a eat. The fir t impre ive thing wa the complimentary fruit bar that my kid loved. I am o happy that they erve the fruit becau e I dont have to worry about my kid only eating bean and chee e taco for lunch. Now I can count on them enjoying the fruit. I did try then enchilada and I mu t ay they are about the be t I have ever tried. The enchilada auce ha a rich meaty flavor with a hint of different pice that really come together good. We all had the enchilada plate (and I had my puffy taco) and we fell in love with the food. I highly recommend thi place for anyone looking for a warm family environment and good food. The price i not to high which really help out. Thank you all.view less
