Tanner Transmissions in Draper is a great service center! We were having a reoccurring issue with our transmission over a 3 month period. We had multiple mechanics/repair shops attempt to find the problem, each were unsuccessful. Tanner Transmission diagnosed the problem and competed the repair. They were courteous, professional and responsive. We are 100% satisfied!

These guys were fantastic. No question, I recommend Nate and his people for any transmission service.

These guys have a F rating from the Better Business Bureau for a reason.



They put the wrong transmission fluid in my car - this is basically a death sentence for my transmission. My transmission had been fine, but was overdue for a fluid change. I had a power flush done on my Ford, and they told me my car used a Toyota transmission, which sounded weird. After driving for 5 miles my car started shifting hard, and when I got home later I did some research. They wrote down on my receipt that my transmission as a TF-81sc, which is not only NOT the transmission used on my car (6f35), it isn't even used in Toyotas. They also said they added Lubeguard for Honda or Toyota... The transmission they said my car has (TF-81sc) isn't used in either Hondas and Toyotas. It uses a completely different transmission fluid than what my car needs, and then they added a fuel additive that isn't compatable with either transmission. Even if my car had the TF-81sc transmission, the additive was totally wrong for it!



Malice or incompetence? Either way it doesn't matter. Stay away from Tanner Transmission.



I also found out a friend brought his car into Tanner Transmissions just to be looked at for a quick diagnosis. They took his transmission apart without telling him, and then they refused to let him have his car back until he paid them $600 to put it back together without fixing it. They wouldn't even let him have his car back to be towed to another shop.



These guys are super friendly in person & on the phone, but it's a ruse. Don't fall for it.

I chose Tanner because after my inquiry of cost, etc. I was so totally calm because Blaine (the owner who was in covering for his that manager that week who was deer haunting) was very complete in his description of what needed to be done, what he could do for me and a cost that was less than half of what the dealers had quoted me. He explained everything in simple terms that I could understand Tanner Transmissions was very quick in arranging for my car to be towed from the dealer to their shop.

Tanner Transmissions was on time and on budget. The on time was very important to me, as I needed to have a car to do my job. Jim the manager at the state street shop told me it would take a maximum of three days to repair the clutch in my Toyota he under promised and over delivered. It took Tanner only about one and half days. When’s the last time a mechanic was did that for you? Anyway I was able to plan for the other transportation. I have not been told the whole truth by some other mechanics and it was refreshing to have someone come out and give me the facts. The price wasn’t so bad either.

With much skepticism I took my 04 Expedition there. Tanner was very competitive and I got the warranty I feel like I needed. Within 24 hours form leaving my truck there, I changed my mind and decided to go for a battle to take my truck back. To my surprise, my transmission was totally disassembled and they took me inside of their shop where I saw the 3000 parts of my transmission on a table and someone already working on it.

It took a whole 5 days to get the job done, but on Saturday at 11AM I was able to get my truck back and the transmission repaired.

Within three days from taking my truck the transmission begin to leak all over my driveway. With no hesitation and quite upset I took my truck back to Tanner. They checked the leak and I left the truck there once again. Within 4 hours the leak was fixed and I haven’t had any issues since then.

The transmission is now 1 year old and I’m getting ready to return to Tanner for the yearly inspection as part of my Warranty Contract.

Until now Tanner has been a 5 Star company and I hope to be able to continue rating them this high due on their future services on my cars.

I am absolutely impressed with Tanner. They are very competitive on their prices and their customer service is outstanding. I needed to drop off my vehicle the night before and they went out of their way to accommodate me in doing so after hours. Everyone I've talked is also blown away that they were able to get my vehicle in the next day and get a quality job out by 3 pm. I also heard him not charging for something small with another customer. Good folks.

I just got a used car without a warranty, had it 2 months and heard a loud bang and transmission broke in rush hour traffic. I had it towed to a shop and they don't do this kind of repair so I called around and was shocked at what it cost for my car! (98 Ford Taurus SHO with V8) I liked the reviews so I called Tanner and had it towed in. I liked the guys blunt force honesty of “hope for the best but be prepared for the worse” kind of thing. They checked it out and called me back and said they could fix it and did not have to rebuild or replace it! It was 1/2 the price of every other shop I called. When I went to pick it up he showed me what was broke and has he talked I looked around the shop was impressed with what I saw. The crew were professional, no goofing around here. You could see they take pride in their work and looking at all the cars there they have a lot of work.

This is the type of business that Utah needs more of. I needed my transmission rebuilt this spring for towing extremely heavy trailers on the back of my truck. The folks at Tanner Transmissions knew exactly what I needed (I know a bit about transmissions myself) and they blew me away with all of the detail and questions they asked me. They wanted to know every single detail about why I needed a rebuild and I was glad for their thorough service. They talked me through the warranty options and I chose the one that’s good for as long as the vehicle is in my possession. Great service and thorough techs really make this place shine.

Tanner Transmissions really helped me out in a bind. I had to have my car towed here when it broke down on the freeway and I had no alternative. It was really difficult for me to leave my car with them, but I was desperate and needed it fixed for my family and my job. Even though I was still a little nervous because there are dishonest shops out there, they helped put my mind at ease and gave me few reasons to worry. They fixed my car in a jiffy (something was wrong with the alternator) and had me back driving home before I knew it. I have since taken my car here for other minor repairs, and they have done a great job every time.

I felt the staff at Tanner Transmissions were knowledgeable and professional. I was happy with the customer service they provided and I think they did excellent work. I would bring my car to them again if I ever have another transmission issue.

The staff is very courteous and friendly, I feel I got a really good deal and good service done.

Blaine and everyone else who helped me were all great! The customer service was much better than I ever expected from a transmission shop. I am impressed and will now tell everyone I know to go to Tanner Transmissions!

I Took My '93 Toyota 4 runner in for transmission chatter and some really rough shifting. Tanner Transmissions were able to get my Toyota 4 runner in right away to replace the clutch. Only problem with my experience with Bob and his crew is I picked it up and the transmission was still making the same noise as before the clutch felt amazing though and was what I ask them to fix. After complaining about this to the Bob he immediately took it back again and figured out the truck needed a new shifter bushing and ended up replacing that part and only charge for the part and gave me his labor free. I'm so glad they were able to fix this so quickly and with these minor issues only. Would have been five stars if they caught the shifter bushing on the first try but I'm glad they fixed this in the end. Thanks Tanner Transmissions. Utah Attentiveness... I had my transmission rebuilt a couple years ago with great communication on exactly what was needed and what I wanted for a very heavy towing situation. I was very impressed with the professionalism Tanner Transmissions had for my 2006 GM Duramax they produce the transmission that was required for the towing that I do. Tanner sold me what they call an Ownership warranty and my transmission is good for as long as I own my vehicle. Each year they Power Flush my transmission as part of the warranty for free. So every time I returned for service on my truck Jim the manager always remembered me. Just had Tanner take a look at my wife transmission in her car. Nothing wrong with it that a Power Flush did not fix. Inexpensive and out, leaving me with the same pleasure and confidence in their workmanship and thoroughness. This is why I’m writing this positive review plus Jim asked if I had time to write one and I said I would be glad to. Nice place in Salt Lake City that can fix almost anything and who cares about my vehicles as much as I do. A+++ across the board! Thanks Tanner Transmission. If you live in Salt Lake City or anyplace in Utah I would highly recommend Tanner Transmissions and their crew.

The Power Flush Really Solved My Problem. I have a Dodge Ram that I use to pull my 22' Travel Trailer around for family outing. Got it out this June for a weekend with the Wife and Kids. Everything was going great but all of a sudden the trucks transmission seemed to slip. Disconnected the trailer and went to Tanner Transmissions State Street location and told Jim the manager there what was going on. He went with me for a test drive. The truck was not doing what it had before with the trailer attached. Jim asked me when was the last time I had my transmission serviced and I said never. He recommended a Power Flush to me. He told me that it might solve the problem but that it may not. However it sure wouldn’t hurt anything. Long story short it work. Now I get my truck serviced every 20,000 miles. I would recommend changing your transmission fluid, its real is a good idea. Dave in Salt Lake City.
