General Info
I've spent some time trying many things, most of them very left-brained: math, physics, electrical engineering, accounting, even some building construction work. So it comes as a surprise to me, and to everyone who has known me, that the work that has most intrigued me and captured my attention requires a connection to the intuitive side of our human nature. I first encountered myofascial release over five years ago when someone demonstrated the technique on my wife. A very loud little-voice inside shouted, "LEARN THAT!" Since then, that is what I have been about. After attending Healing Mountain Massage School in Salt Lake City in order to learn about working with the body and its energy field, I spent some time as an instructor for their Advanced Massage class. This was a great support in my pursuit of John F. Barnes, PT Myofascial Release. Ultimately, however, massage is not what spoke to me. It felt like I'd finally made it home when I attended my first myofascial release seminars. There was a life force there, and acceptance, that I hadn't experienced before. The effect of it on those who were there was to wake us up! We'd been taught an incomplete, segmented view of human beings! Sure it was logical, but the logic was based on the faulty premise that you can separate the mind from the body, that you can treat the body piece by piece. Wake up! We are not machines! Consciousness plays a critical role in healing. The mind affects the body, and not only that, but the body affects the mind! Finally, the piece that had started clicking years ago fell into place. I had found something that not only could be a career I could love, but could also help me and others find ever greater fulfillment and excitement along with healing. Both my wife and I have benefited greatly from myofascial release. It has been an up and down journey of learning, frustration, letting go and more learning along with the physical changes and the healing that have come as a result. I've come a long way, yet I have a very long way to go. But, the point is not that you get somewhere, it's that you keep moving. Myofascial release is not the only thing that has helped, but anything that helps shares this in common with myofascial release: "Accept where you are, only then can you move."
Brands
Through trauma in your normal life: falls, surgery, habitual poor posture, thwarted inflammatory responses and other actions, fascia has the tendency to tighten, solidify and constrict. The now restricted tissue pulls on surrounding structures through the continuous web of fascia. Left uncorrected, the fascia web will reorganize to support and reinforce these areas that are subjected to increased tensions which cause the restriction to spread. Myofascial release can alleviate restricted tissue and allow your body to function properly.
