What is Trails & Sails Coordinated by the Essex National Heritage Commision, as an integral part of our mission, Trails & Sails raises regional awareness of Essex County's resources, encourages visitation, and fosters stewardship and preservation of its heritage sites. Trails & Sails takes place each September, just North of Boston, inviting you to enjoy the diverse experiences that led to this region's designation as a National Heritage Area, for FREE! Discover treasures in your own backyard! Experience all the sights and sounds of the Essex National Heritage Area during the ninth annual Trails & Sails: Two Weekends of Walks and Water! Explore the many cultural, historic, and natural sites during two weekends of FREE events featuring a variety of walks, guided hikes, sails, historical tours, and adventures. Find the Perfect Events for You! Be sure to visit www.trailsandsails.org for the most up to date event information, complete descriptions, and special event search functions. Not all events are suitable for young children or pets, and some are not wheelchair accessible. Certain events have limited capacity and in rare cases, a required reservation. Please note ; reservations are not available until September 9, 2010. Many historic site tours and hikes have an implied limit of 30 people. Always have another event lined up just in case you don't get in. Be Safe! Wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Rubber soles are recommended for all events, especially those that are outdoors, hiking or boating related. Children should always be accompanied by an adult, at all events, including those that are Family Friendly.
