Located in Mounds View, Minn., Pinewood Elementary School serves more than 500 students in grades kindergarten through five. Its guided reading program offers students reading instruction in small group settings with specialized instruction. Its high performing program provides accelerated and extended instruction in both math and reading. Its information technology specialist teaches researching of topics using both the library and the Internet. Its students also receive specialized instruction in areas, such as science, art, physical education, music and technology. Additionally, it offers activities, such as band, orchestra, Junior Great Books, and a variety of before- and after-school programs. Its parent-teacher association helps to educate parents on a wide variety of issues that impact them, their children and school and conducts fundraising activities.
