Panorama restaurant has excellent food and a great ambiance! One of our favorite places for a lovely lunch!

A first-class museum! Coming ...

A first-class museum! Coming from Chicago, I expecting it to be far inferior to the Art Institute, but boy was I wrong... St. Louis Art Museum really holds its own. The collection is amazing, and the traveling exhibits are top-notch. And of course, the building and grounds are absolutely magnificent. Beautiful in the summer, and beautiful in the winter (when all the kids snowsled down the hill to the lagoon). Great gift shop in the basement, with decent food at the cafe.

Great place to visit and free

What a great asset to the city and some of the best exhibits in the world make stops here (although there is usually an admission fee for those). Wonderful place to expose children and teens to art, scuplture, etc.

St. Louis Art Museum Review

How this place has escaped the notice of National Geographic or Smithsonian magazines is beyond me. The permanent collection is extensive and exceptional. The temporary and traveling exhibits are appropriate for a family museum and of excellent quality and reputation. The grounds are beautiful (Forest Park--site of the 1904 World's Fair) and parking is free and generally close to the museum. The museum staff is a little on the ""brisk"" side, being very quick to reprimand visitors for getting too close to some exhibits or using flash cameras, but perhaps this is necessary to protect a world class art collection from the over-appreciative public which sometimes comes through the museum.

Great for modern art

I am not a big fan of modern art so I wished they had more Impressionistic.

Never again.

After having visited museums around the world, I was shocked at the rudeness of the guards at SALM when I moved here. After several occaisions, I have given up on the ""bad day"" theory and cancelled my mebership. Their collection isn't good enough to justify the hassle. Add the pathetic choice of eats and inconvenient handicapped / stroller entrance, and the trip to the museum ceases to be enjoyable whatsoever.

Fun & Educational (don't tell the kids)

It's a great place to take kids. There are so many things to look at. They also have several special exhibits throughout the year for a nominal fee, but it's usually worth it.
