Proper Japanese for those Looking for The Real Deal

After recently spending time in Shinjuku, Harajuku, and Shinagawa wards in Tokyo, I can honestly say that Seki on Delmar is the most authentic Japanese restaurant in Saint Louis. This is in no deference to any of the other Japanese styled restaurants in the area, nor against any of the other Japanese owned restaurants in Saint Louis, but for as often as I've visited Seki San's shop, I've grown to appreciate his comm... view more

Good sushi, good atmosphere, slow service

The sushi was pretty good. I'd put it below Drunken Fish and Wasabi, but still pretty good for STL area sushi. Price wise it was pretty standard fair for sushi. Standard rolls (Tuna, salmon, Cal, etc) 4.75-6.\r The waitness we had was really funny and entertaining. She was very nice and tended to us pretty well. However once we had finished our sushi she was a little slow of giving us our check.\r With that said I'... view more

terrible service, overprice

I would never ever go back SEKI again!\r The waitress is rude, and old-crazy looking. The food isn't impressive at all but overprice too much.\r They don't offer free refill drinks, and the selection is limited. I saw three huge nasty creatures on the floor and in the bathroom. That is disgusting! I also saw few fly in the soy sauce bottles. I didn't even wanna eat the food I order. I didn't leave ""good"" tips for... view more

Overpriced, but decent food, sometimes nasty treatment from the waiters if you are not asian

Ok, first off, the food and drink is extremely expensive, but that is not unusual for Japanese restaurants. However, what bothered me about the place is that some servers (not all) are blatantly cold/rude towards non-Asians while at the same time acting very warm and hospitable to asians. I ate there a few times with asian friends and recieved unusually cold treatment when compared to the treatment of my asian friend... view more

below average hospitality

i was very excited to go to SEKI today. i was sadly disappointed. the woman others have talked about being a bad waiter was OUR waiter! i asked her for suggestions since it was my first time and my friends first time eating sushi,, she said, i no do that, if he dont like he still pay, you will have to make suggestions to him. i was so shocked at the rude behavior. i knew what i wanted, however, what i ordered did ... view more

One of the better places

There are well over 30 places in the St. Louis area for sushi. I have been to all but two; both far off. I apprenticed to a Japanese chef. Everything I've had at Seki's has been excellent. I go at lunch, and service has been great, but I cannot comment on busier times. Seki can be somewhat reserved, but don't mistake this for aloof -- he has been friendly, and is very knowledgeable. The worst part has been parking, b... view more

Izakaya in the Loop

I read a few negative reviews, but as one who has gone to Seki numerous times, I like them best in the city, even though I have tried many other sushi places. Why? Seki is the most authentic, almost Izakaya style restaurant in St. Louis. Growing up in NYC, living in both Tokyo and Osaka, I found Seki to be the closest to the ""home"" atmosphere found in Japan. The local Izakaya (Literally, place to drink Sak... view more

Seki keeps it fresh

Seki's sushi is worth the trip, varied and very fresh. Also great ""comfort food"" meals like the Beef Bowl and the Duck dish (Konbangwa sp?). The wait staff are quite efficient and cordial. Seki tends his sushi bar deftly...every customer feels welcome.

Seki - an honest review

I don't know about the negative comments from one of the recent reviews. I've lived in the area for the last ten years and have considered Seki to serve the best sushi in St. Louis. In addition, two Japanese native friends have voiced Seki as their favorites as well. I eat Japanese fairly often and find Seki's fish to be fresh everytime. However, my bill adds up to around $50 a person. Also, the service is pretty qui... view more
