If you think you can walk out from this place with $20 dollar per person, I will probably suggest you to go to a burger joint.
Lulu is a fine dinning authentic chinese cuisine and they serve first class chinese dish to the customers, I am very discourage by peeople who are trying to compare Lulu with other so called Chinese restaurant.
Tonight was the fourth time we came back to this palce and still wanted to go back the fifth time. We ordered lobster, fish and some other dishes, they are fast and the food quality was breathtaking. The taste was just right not too salty nor too sweet, the chef was trying his best to bring out the flavor of fresshness and deliciousneess of the fish and lobster. That's what I called a chef. After the meal, I asked the waiter about the chefs. Apparently the main Chefs are coming from Guang Dong and Shanghai, that was what I thought, too. Because of good food will make a person miss home.
I came from Malaysia and I am a Chinese decendent. I have travelled the whole US, I can claimed that Lulu Restaurant is the finest Chinese cuisine in the State.

We purchased a gift certificate from restaurant dot com a while ago and wanted to use it in the LuLu seafood restaurant, they refused to take it by saying they are not parcitipating it anymore for a long time, and also told us that restaurant dot com is not existing anymore. What a joke! Although your restaurant is not participating anymore, you should not refuse to accept it since there is no expiration date on it. What made it even worse is that, instead of explaining to us, the boss of that restaurant yelled at us, saying ""we are not accepting it, that's it !"" His attitude was so rude and made us felt sick. I would not recommend anyone to go to that restaurant in the future, it's not about the money, the food, but the way how you run the business is absolutely wrong!

I wish I could say this place is great and St. Louis has a great place for Dim Sum and authentic Chinese cuisine. But I cannot. Every visit brings another set of problems that wittles away at my ability to recommend this restaurant. Firstly, the majority of the staff displays little attention to customer service and are basically rude. They try to force you to take items you have declined during Dim Sum. They almost seem to be screaming at you when they talk. I could dismiss this if this was the only problem. Second, the service is really disorganized. They do not check to see that your food is to your liking. We once waited a half hour for our order to be taken and over an hour for our food to arrive. The waiter never checked on us during that time. Apparently they just forgot. The worst part is that there really was not any attempt at an apology. They did not even give us part of the meal on the house. The food then trickled out of the kitchen after we waited another 15 minutes. Lastly, there are quality control issues. Dishes sometimes are not what they appear to be on the menu or in the display case. I really want to like this place. I really want somewhere to go for Dim Sum in St. Louis. I've been all over the country, San Francisco to New York, and had great authentic Chinese food with less attitude, reliable service, and consistent food.

I've been eating here since I moved to St.Louis ten years ago from the San Francisco bay area and I can state that the food is, without a doubt, authentic Chinese. I especially love the Dim Sum brunch on weekends which reminds me of Chinatown in San Francisco.
I guess since I'm used to Chinatown in SF, I don't find their attitude disturbing or unusual. Also, I always tip 20%, which is normal these days in most places I've been, so I never get any complaints from the waiters.
Incidentally, waiters normally make minimum wage and live from their tips, which are taxed by the IRS. Most waiters also share their tips with bus boys, hostess, etc., so that 1950's era 10% tip some of you leave really translates to about 5% in their pocket if their lucky.

While in the middle of eatring our meal the maitre 'd came over to our table and reached into the middle of the table, picked up our bill and interupted both our meal and our conversation to begin grilling us about what we had oredered exclaiming several times that the bill just wasn't right. We considered it highly inappropriate to start arguing with us about a meal we hadn't even eaten yet. We won't be returning. Additionally we got the distinct impression that we were not welcome in that we were non Chinese.

My fiance and I have been eating at Lu Lu's since December of 2010, and had no problems until last night.
I felt that I had to write about this because the experience just floored me, and also after reading similar reviews from people who have experienced the same situation at Lu Lu's. My fiance is native Chinese, and I am Caucasain, and I am only pointing this out because I want others to know that Lu Lu's does not just discriminate against non-Chinese ethnicities. When the bill came I gave the waitress my debit card and she returned with it and the receipt to sign. She then walked away, and I added a 10% tip, as there was only two people. The waitress returned when she saw that I had signed the receipt (usually waitresses pick up the check after you have left the building out of common courtesy) and looked at the tip I left her and said that I had only left her a 6% tip and demanded a 15% tip. She said that her boss does not pay her (which I believe to think means that she is working illegally) and that she lives off of tips and that we were not being fair. She was demanding a larger tip for her service of two people that she hardly had to do anything for. I don't care how great a restaurant's food is, the hired (maybe not even legally...) help should never demand a certain amount of money in tips. This is unbelievably rude customer service and we will definitely not be returning.

A good place for Dim Sum in St Louis. I love their pineapple custard bun. But, it's suspicious when they don't tell you how much each item cost. You are at the mercy of the cashier who just pounds on her calculator and then writes down the total of the bill.
I have dined there often to the point that I could almost predict how much the total bill should be. I recently have a Groupon Certificate for $20 off. Barely approaching the counter after our meal, the cashier immediately grabbed the coupon/paper off my hand and started calculating. The total came out as if she charged more to 'compensate' for the coupon. It's almost as if the $20 discount barely made a dent.
Using the second certificate I purchased from Groupon, this time, I withheld the coupon until after she, the same person who cashiered during my last visit, finished pounding on the calculator. When I presented the coupon after she wrote the total amount, she looked disturbed and decided to comb thru the fine print -- perhaps hoping to find a reason to reject it. She even went to our server to double check our food bill. That disturbed me a lot!
I seriously recommend keeping a count of your consumption and being vigilant with their prices. It's one thing to pay for a good meal, it's another to be duped by the bill to compensate for their ""discount.""
We left the place not having enjoyed the meal because of that.

I have found some cheap customers come to a best restaurant and don't want to tip or complain this or other. I advise those customer do not go to good restaurant for good food and don't want to pay for that. Especially for those cheap local chinese customers, just cook at home by yourself. LuLu Seafood is a quality and best chinese restaurant, not those cheap ones. For those to destroy its best reputation, those local chinese may has some bad and sick purposes. No matter how do you try to say any bad word for Lulu
Seafood, LuLu Seafood is still a best Chinese Restaurant is whole St. Louis Metropolitan area.
Waiters, waitresses are low income worker. They are the best worker earn they life through their own hands. Please don't take any advantages from them. If you don't tip, just order take out and eat at home. Please respect them just like respect yourself.

I just had an unfortunate experience at lulu’s, so bad in fact I have to write this in hopes that something positive can result for the restaurant and potential customers in the future. First of all, I am a local native Chinese, and have in fact had a nice time here during a past visit. But, now after seeing a very similar review, it seems a new waitress at the restaurant threatens their reputation. This evening, we had a large dinner party of 4 kids and 4 adults. When placing the tip on the table, this incredibly unprofessional and rude waitress actually began asking for more. Albeit, the amount was about 10% at that instant, however the other adult couple had not yet put in. This type of behavior …. from a service worker? How is it possible that Lulus management can not see what irreparable damage this will do to their reputation as a dining establishment? And on top of this, I went to the front desk and one of the co-owners (after I personally gave 2 waiters and 1 waitress who actually serviced our table 5 bucks each, I was told by a waitress that he was the husband of the owner ) actually threatened to charge my credit card extra! He said the waitress had to support her family (well, who doesn't? Besides, it's irrelevant here, she was demanding more tips from me, I wonder why she did not ask from the other 2 adults on my table for more tips, I have already put in my own portion) and he was going to charge a higher percentage of tips to my credit card This is absolutely fraudulent and incredibly unprofessional. I cannot recommend Lulus after this, and would say a visit there is at your own risk. You can see the trend in the reviews. It is sad that a once pleasant atmosphere to dine in and have a reasonably authentic meal has turned into this….Lulus needs to make some changes. Unfortunately, attitudes like that, from ownership right down to the wait staff, illustrates to me that it may be quite some time, if ever, the situation at Lulus will improve. I wish them the best, and to anyone who tries to have a pleasant dining experience here, I can only wish you luck but consider yourself warned.
All in all, It was a waste of time and money to dine at Lulu seafood restaurant. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The smell of their bathroom was all over the dining area this evening when we were there.
PS:in response to the 5/24 reply that a worker had been dismissed, this seems to indicate that the ownership themselves are consistently hiring with poor judgment, or worse, re-hiring the very same waitress that causes these issues?
