I felt sorry for that little guy. Can't believe that manager intervened like that. She obviously doesn't know how to manage employees or deal with customers. She shouldn't be a manager.

Saturday night a large group of us were on Mainstreet shopping and I went into Schmang's with my friend's sister and her two kids. There was no one else in the shop but us. We browsed and talked to the two teenagers that were working there for maybe 15 minutes. After leaving, we got half a block away and one of the people from the shop stopped us and claimed one of the kids had taken something and wanted to see what was in his pockets. The little 9 yr. old boy was instantly upset because he actually thought he was in trouble. The search yielded only a small stanley tape measure that his father gave him earlier that night. Realizing he had made a HUGE blunder, the Schmangs employee graciously allowed us go on our way without detaining us further and scurried back to the store leaving the little boy crying in his mothers arms. About 20 minutes later I went back into the store and said very calmly ...what you did to that child was very uncool...the boy was crying...you should be sure before making accusations like that. At this, the store manager rather than apologizing raised her voice and became immediately combative saying it was inappropriate for me to come back and address the issue...(as if chasing down a 9 year old child and wrongly accusing him of shoplifting without proof somehow was appropriate). She told me to get out and never come back, slamming the door behind me. Not content to let it end there, she threatened to call the police if we didn't get off the sidewalk in front of her property. Evidently no one explained to her that she doesn't own the public sidewalk in front of a store that she merely rents in the first place. All of her behavior and her smug, (almost cartoonish) tone where designed to create an seperate incident to divert attention from the fact that she was completely in the wrong...she knew it...and she had embarrassed herself and her store. Do not patronize this establishment. If you do, you might want to have a lawyer handy.
