I picked up my reserved car at the Sacramento Airport Friday morning the July 18th. I was in a rush and haven't used Alamo for several years. My rate was very reasonable. At the time of reservation through my Southwest Frequent Flyer site the total for three days came to about $75. I was asked about upgrading which I refused as I had a good car that met my needs. I was then asked if I wanted the standard or upgraded insurance. I was given no explanation or heads up that there would be an additional charge. I also was not given the option to decline. I did not realize what had happened until I returned the car on Sunday the 20th and was charged over $160 at the drop off! As it turned out the check-in person made a mistake and I had to go back to the Alamo counter, wait in line, and then explained that the charge should have been only around $80. I was charged for the wrong car and apparently I didn't actually decline the damage waiver because I was not told about it. This added $45 to the bill. I'm still not sure how it was all adjusted because it was getting late for my flight. The person at the counter said he gave me a $5 credit for the trouble and still charged me $120. Needless to say, my next car rental probably wont be Alamo. UPDATE: I had an experience with Alamo that I gave an unfavorable review on. They contacted me and after getting all the info made everything right! That is a sign of a company that cares about it's customers! 5 stars for Alamo and I will use them on my next trip!
Picked up car at Sacramento Airport----unfortunately running late for a meeting and drove off lot without realizing gas tank was not full. Additionally, had challenges with the automatic transmission not shifting appropriately while driving vehicle. Fill tank upon return anyway. Mentioned both to the young lady checking in the car. She didn't seem to understand what I was talking about concerning the transmission not shifting appropriately. Not confident this issue was reported. Was not offered any concession regarding the gas issue. Unfortunately, this was the second week in a row I had an issue with renting here. The previous week, I was provided a car that was not cleaned well. It was a black SUV that had been washed but obviously left out to dry in the sun, and it had water spots all over it. I had to stop at a gas station to clean all the windows so that I could see appropriately while driving. I did mention this to the attendant checking in the car, and I did receive a $15 discount on that rental. I will say I have rented with them prior to these two incidents--and had no problems. But the gas situation was annoying.....I will probably try them once again and see what happens.
I recently rented a car with them the first car I picked up the ac didn't work and I had to come back and exchange the car which made me late to work. The car I exchanged for wasn't even cleaned out or washed because I found the last renters trash in the back doors and the outside was dirty. They did upgrade me free of charge for having to come back. Also when I spoke to the man helping me i asked if I wanted to extend my rental would I be charged the weekend special rate or the regular rate and was told I would be charged the weekend rate for the 1st extra day and the regular price for the second. When I turned the car in that was not the case they charged me the full price for both days. So it wasn't a completely horrible experience but it wasn't a great experience either
