A refraction is a critical diagnostic test that the physician uses to evaluate your vision, and without it, we are not able to fully assess the health and function of your eyes. It helps the doctor determine whether your vision is reduced by a medical disease (such as cataracts, macular degeneration, etc) or if it can simply be improved with glasses. Just like your primary care doctor uses bloodwork to make decisions about your treatment plan, a refraction is necessary to fully assess the health and function of your eyes. Refractions are NOT optional.
Emergency Care
If you do inadvertently put the wrong liquid into your eyes, immediately rinse it with lots of plain water or saline solution. Also remember, The Eye Associates always have a doctor on call 24/7 who can advise you if immediate attention is needed. Call us at 1-866-865-2020. If something more toxic, such as drain cleaner, battery acid, ammonia-based cleaning products, drywall or concrete dust gets into your eyes, you should immediately rinse and then go to the emergency room nearest to you.

Dr. Dubin is a board-certified optometrist with a focus in medical eye care. This includes dry eye treatment, glaucoma diagnosis/management and diabetic eye exams. He also has an interest in fitting speciality contact lenses for conditions such as keratoconus and severe dry eye syndrome.
