After reading the two other reviews (one of which is only heresay), I felt the need to write a positive review. We bought our puppy from Rodak last year despite the poor review I read on here. Yes, Roger seems like he is a few french fries short of a happy meal, but we have a healthy and lovable dog. He has had no medical issues whatsoever and he is a year old already. I would defintely purchase another dog from Rodak Dog Training as our puppy has been such a joy to my family.
In fact, I've had many people compliment us on our beautiful dog and when asked where we got him from, either they have personally gotten dogs from him, or know of many who have.
I'm certainly not dismissing the other reviewer as I know its difficult to lose a pet and deal with poor customer service. I just really wanted to say to anybody who is considering purchasing a dog from Rodak, that we had a great experience.
After reading Deevadog's review, I decided to contact my own veterenarian, since they are located so closely to Rodak, and I found out that my vet has had dealings with Rodak in the past, and none of them were good!!!
He initially contacted my vet years ago concerning one of his dogs, an 11 month old German Shepard, asking if my vet (parapharsing here) ""did away with dogs"". She toild him ""No, we euthanize them humanely"", and that the cost was around $40. He said he didn't want to pay that much. She asked him what was wrong with the dog. He said ""it's no good in the show ring, so it's of no use to me, so I just want to get rid of it."" My vet was appalled, so she asked him if he'd give the dog to her, and she'd find it a good home, which she did. Today this dog is happy, healthy, and loved.
Years later he contacted her again about another dog that he wanted to dispose of, this time because ""she's 8 years old and no longer good for breeding, so I just want to get rid of her."" Again...same story: she took the dog in, and found it a good home.
I've never met this man or had dealings with him, but based on my vet's comments, I am shocked that this guy is still allowed to do business. He obviously has no clue how to ethically and humanely run his business, nor does he care to change his ways.
Certainly there are better breeders and trainers out there. Patronize THOSE people's businesses and NEVER EVER deal with Rodak Dog Training!!!!!!
Since I'm not allowed to give this business zero stars, I'll give it one, but I'm NOT happy about it!!
As an update to my earlier review--the puppy that Roger would not refund my money on after I found it to have a heart condition THREE HOURS after purchasing it from him was taken to the UW Vet hospital yesterday for a complete cardiac workup.
He was found to have a GENETIC HEART DEFECT, which is passed thru the genetic lines, so it is entirely possible and probable that other dogs in his lines also have this issue.
This explains to me why Keepers was so adament about killing this puppy and not wanting it to be tested--I am sure he did not want this information out.
He has no business breeding the dogs he does and I want to make sure no one else goes thru what I have been thru with this horrible, repugnant man.
