I'm going to give Roy's an 'exceptional' for sheer historic value as well as selection. This is the convenience store where you can find almost anything you need short of a full grocery store. We've been amazed to find things there we thought we'd have to go to town for. Roy's is perhaps the oldest convenience store in Rome, and it shows. It is rather run down, and in bad repair. However, customer service is great - you'll always get in and out very fast. They have rows and rows of candy - some rather unique - making it our favorite stop for Easter and Christmas stocking stuffers.
This is a very friendly butcher shop with a lot of different cuts available. They also often have seafood and lamb, but we mainly go there for their beef. The meat is always fresh and they will cut it to your specifications. They sell Boar's Head lunch meats as well. Make sure you sign up for their email that lets you know what the daily specials are, otherwise they are a bit higher than you will pay in the grocery stores, but if you stick with the specials, you get better meat at a better price. Very clean, friendly and efficient. My only complaint is that they do not take coupons.
I really prefer Lowe's for most things. If it is strictly lumber, Wheeler's is my choice, but for lighting, appliances, a simple pack of light bulbs- Lowe's is great. They have excellent customer service and I have always been assisted to find anything I needed. They are just a tad bit more than Home Depot but the customer service makes it worthwhile.
