Overall

As a physician, I am very sensitive to reviews, and sadly, this is the only negative review I have written in 56 years. This is the worst experience I have ever dealt with.

I contacted Mr. Rob Wise of Robs Handyman to change out a carpet on June 16, 14. Unfortunately the carpet we had was to small for the room. So he finished the edge of the existing carpet where it meet the tile. Even though it was a small job, I still paid him the $120 for the full job.

I asked Mr. Wise what type of jobs his company did. He stated plumbing, electrical, etc. We had a stool that needed to be reset from tile that had just been put in so I asked him to reset it because we had out of state company coming in town the next day. He said no problem and he sent his assistant to reset the stool. I provided a brand new wax ring for the resetting of the stool. After the stool was replaced the assistant asked me for a plunger. I found that odd, but assumed the issue was resolved. I paid the invoice for the carpet and setting of the stool.

The next day, our guest arrived. Shortly after his arrival he asked for a plunger and asked me not to come downstairs due to the huge mess. After over an hour of cleaning we threw away a bathroom rug and 4 nice bath towels. This was horribly embarrassing!

I immediately called Mr. Wise to ask him to come out to check the stool. He assured me it was nothing they had done, but he would come out the next day. I waited, but he never came or called. I called him about 5 pm to see if he was coming. He stated that he was running behind but then quickly broke out into a rant stating that there was no way this issue was caused by anything they did, that he had reset 1000 s of stools and nothing like this had ever happened. He knew it must be something in the line causing it . So I commented that he was apparently not planning on coming out to check this problem . He became very belligerent and began snickering. I stopped him twice to ask him what was so funny. he told me that I did not know what I was talking about and the stool was not his problem. He said the only way he would come out was if I paid him. Our final discussion was that I would call a professional plumber to fix the problem. If the problem was in the line, he would not be responsible. But if the problem was his fault, he would pay for the service call. To which he agreed. Any legitimate businessman would have agreed to this, but a legitimate businessman would have come out to check his work!

I called Draper Plumbing, our normal plumber, an excellent firm in Springfield. Due to Mr. Wise belligerent attitude, I had another party witness Mr. Draper s findings. The stool had been set wrong. The new wax ring had been crushed and was blocking the water flow. Mr. Draper provided us with a written statement of his findings and gave us the destroyed wax ring to keep as evidence.

On Thursday, June 19, I sent Mr. Wise the findings, Mr. Drapers bill of $118.84 and the pictures of the destroyed wax ring. Instead of an apology and an immediate reimbursement of the money we spent to correct his work, we got a hateful response in addition to accusing us of doctoring the wax ring pictures . He also added not bother to take him to small claims court because we wouldn t win. Apparently he is no stranger to this and we all know it would be a waste of our time.

No reimbursement has received. It s been 3 wks now. When I contact him, I only receive more belligerent comments filled with foul language. I notified him that he would leave me with no other choice than to write honest reviews and report this to the BBB s in hopes of warning others. I noted on his website that his membership in the Handy Man Assoc, expired in April 2013. They require a code of ethics.

In our opinion, use Robs Handyman at your own risk and I wish you better luck than we had.
