The Food Stamp Program is operated by the Department of Health and Human Services of the state of Maine. It operates a food stamp office, which accepts applications of individuals and families in need of financial help to buy food. Its food stamp office also issues cards to eligible candidates to receive the amount of food stamps based on the number of people in the house. Its food stamp cards are used like cash at authorized stores to buy food. Additionally, the program also offers food stamp cards to senior citizens and homeless people to purchase meals at the state-approved restaurants and eating places.
