Established in 1911, the United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg serves Charles City, Chesterfield, Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, Petersburg and Powhatan counties in Virginia. The organization offers a variety of programs for children, youths, adults and senior citizens. Its HelpLink 2-1-1 is an information, referral, crisis intervention and telephone counseling service. The United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg provides emergency shelter programs, health care services and disaster assistance. The organization supports a variety of organizations, including the Friends Association for Children, Circle Center Adult Day Services and Boys and Girls Clubs of America. With a location in Richmond, Va., it is a part of the United Way, which is a national network of nearly 1,300 local organizations. The parent organization provides various early childhood, financial and disaster response programs.
