Not sure when one of the viewers/visitors of the Byrd attended, but I have seen movies at the Byrd for years...practically every month. No noise, no hollering, no rowdy audience....so this customer must have been attending at a very special "teen-age' event....I can't imagine..

The BYRD IS A WONDERFUL, REASONABLY PRICED THEATRE. PLEASE TRY IT...YOU'LL LIKE IT!!

Overall
Gorgeous Theater, AWFUL Audiences

The Byrd Theater IS beautiful...gorgeous carpeting, amazing wall ornaments...you'll feel like you've stepped into a Renaissance Palace. It is also very cheap...only 2 bucks!!

However, it's definitely not a place you wanna go if you want to watch the movie in silence. The Byrd Theater always seem to attract the rudest, loudest audiences in Richmond. I guess it's to be expected since its low price and location is a beacon for college students but still... Be prepared for constant talking, murmuring, laughing at inappropriate moments, text messaging lights everywhere, etc. They have a very small crew so I guess they can't afford to hire ushers to walk down the theaters with flashlights enforcing silence and other usual theater behavior.

If you don't mind all that then the Byrd is the place to go but if you're like and hate rude, noisy theatermates then I would not go to the Byrd. They usually only have one or two showtimes at night so be prepared to arrive early because there's ALWAYS a massive line. You get there 5 minutes before your movie and you will miss the beginning.

I would only go to the Byrd for special occasions like Rocky Horror Picture Show or the French Film Festival.
