Tried to take in a 5-6 week old stray kitten that needed professional help. They were rude, unprofessional, and gave me a run around saying there was a vet that took in strays. Four of them confirmed it. Not true. They apparently use this lie a lot, according to the vet place. They're also nice when you're there to take a soul off their hands.

A GREAT SHELTER

I have pulled many rescue dogs from Tehama County Animal Care Center and know many people who have adopted from TCACC. The animals are well cared for and as many details made available as possible. They get to know these boys and girls and work very hard to find them homes or get them out to rescues. Great job staff, keep up the wonderful work.

I had such a wonderful experience adopting my dog through this shelter! Everyone there was so helpful and kind and worked with me to ensure I was matched with the perfect animal. Not only is my dog one-of-a-kind and ABSOLUTELY PERFECT for me, but we go back and visit the staff so my little guy can say hi. They were so helpful with all of my animal's needs and made sure I understood how to care for his mange. They even hooked me up with the vet who was treating him so we could continue care with someone familiar with him! Such a wonderful experience. I hope to adopt more dogs through here!

If you adopt from here you better be prepared for a dog who is covered in fleas so bad you will go crazy and broke trying to rid the dog of them. And if you try to contact the shelter about how upset you are that other things about the animal were not brought to your attention you should also be prepared for a unprofessional and hostile attitude from some woman working there. I would NOT recommend a family pet form here.

To the Manager,

I tried to call and tell you my story and you chose to raise your voice and argue, with that said I did not get a chance to finish my story. When I adopted “Dot” whose name is now Adalia; I paid 20 dollars because she was spayed. A week later she went in heat and I took her to the vet, whom told me she was not fixed. I brought her back to your facility and you paid to have her fixed, apologizing for the “mix-up” When I brought her in, and the lady behind the counter said “you adopted her out to a person with kids? She was taken away from a family for abuse by kids”. Considering I filled out a questionnaire that stated I had kids- that should have been caught by your staff. I chose to keep her anyway; we had fallen in love with her already. And she does not and will not let anyone but me touch her, especially the teenage boy I adopted her for.

While I was there to return my cat to get spayed, I fell in love with another cat, his name was “Rocky” who name is now/was Stonewall Jackson, but they wouldn’t let me adopt him because he was not neutered, so I paid for the adoption of 20$ and for him to get fixed. He is now gone/dead, of no fault of ours, see our cats do not go outside, we live in Corning where there is no cat control and I did not want my cats to catch anything from all the strays that are running around. I already paid $195.00 for x-rays and medication 4 days before I had him put down because he had lost the use of his back legs. It was my vet that said “we can have him tested for so you know for sure, but I am 75% positive this is cat leukemia, and by now it can’t be fixed”. He was completely paralyzed by this time, could not move anything but his eyes.

I am not writing you this letter not out of anger, but anguish, I loved that cat. When I called you I wanted advice about the other cat and you could not have been ruder! Instead of saying, I’m so sorry for your loss you got aggressive to try to save face, shame on you! I hope you do not treat all grieving people that way mam. I hope to god the animals coming out of that shelter are really taken care of like you claim they are, because if Adalia was not spayed like you said she was, then how do I know that Stonewall was really checked for Leukemia? Nothing about my experience with this shelter has been positive so far, except for the love I have/had for my cats! I hope you have a Merry Christmas …..

Me and my family got a dog at ...

Me and my family got a dog at this shelter and it has been the worse 3 months. the dog acted like it was starving the whole time we fed him really well he ae according to what the veterinarian told us. In the past 3 months this dog chewed and dug a whole in the wall , he chewed up our coucxh, coffee, table, remote control, remote conntrol and another wall. on top of this he would pee every time we walked into the house. Me and my daughter have beeen knocked over and he even showed his teeth lunged at me and bit me just because I walked into the room. The people at the animal shelter today did not want to hear any of it. They were actually blaming me. We put out money to make sure the dog had a really nice fenced in yard, we took him for walks. Our family went above and beyond with this dog. the people att he animal shelter were the most uncaring individuals I have ever seen. This one individual put a choke chain on my dog and started yanking on his collar and telling him to sit he was so afraid he did. I really believe that there is something wrong with this dog. I really believe that this dog needs a big ranch or farm to run on. I t deeply saddens me that we had to take him back. All my dogs have been rescue dogs and this shelter has made me rethink and never want to go to a shelter again. These workers at the shelter are the moost unprofesssional . unkind, uncaring people I have ever dealt with in my entire life. I have told my friends not to come there and I will continue to do so. TCAS is the worst animal shelter there ever could be.

Great place to adopt a pet. I ...

Great place to adopt a pet. I recently adopted a dog-all the employees and volunteers were so friendly and obviously loved the animals. When my new dog saw one of the staff a few days later outside the shelter- the dog remembered him with obvious joy and love. That says a lot to me.

I want to rate both the Yellow Pages for their fine service in this matter as a 5 Star.

I also want to rate the Tehema county Sherrif's Office on their Response to my call. Like every Government Office in todays world, You are sent through several different people before you can make a small report. They are extremely disfunctional. On Sunday, I was not able to make contact or leave a message with anyone. Then they wonder why they are so disrespected? Then if you call 911, That is a Joke.

As a former Home and still Land owner of Tehema, County as well as Owner in a Ranch in Tehema County, it seems as though their priorities stem on the wrong subjects.
