When I was young, I always liked the way the electric guitar sounded. At the age of 13, I won 2nd prize in a contest... free guitar lessons from a local music store. I went to the lessons and somehow managed to play that horrendous acoustic "toy" they supplied with my lessons. I was passionate about playing that guitar and never put it down. My mom had to take the guitar away from me so I would eat! I played in bands in Junior and High School and after a couple of failed years in college, went on the road with the Uproar band from the Lehigh Valley, playing gigs throughout the northeast. In 1971 returned to Berks, played in some great bands but could not, even though there were 6 large music stores in town, find any store that had all the pro grear I needed.... in 1972 I founded Fred's Music shop to fill the void and never looked back. I invite you to come into our store and see how much fun we are all having playing the guitar. Fred Bernardo, owner Founded in 1972 by professional guitarist Fred Bernardo. Original store at 140 North Ninth Street in Reading In 1985 moved to current location on Lancaster Ave. in Shillington
