Just need to know the rules!
I've been going to The Mint for a long time and have figured out how to have fun. I even KJ'd at the Mint a few times on early weekend days when it wasn't too crowded, so I know how it feels to be one of them. Follow these guidelines and you're golden. (1) Give the KJ a tip when you go up to give him/her your song slip. This is actually customary in any karaoke bar. The quicker you want to sing, the higher the tip. Especially when it's crowded. (2) Be patient. Listen to other people sing and cheer them on. Talk with your friends. Drink your drink. Think about what song you want to sing next, maybe a duet with a friend. DO NOT go up to the KJ and ask when your song is coming on, unless you have seen other people go up twice since you put your song in. (But see #8, below.) (3) If you have seen other people go up twice since you put your song in, it's OK to go up to the KJ to ask, but the purpose of your inquiry must be to just make sure that the slip didn't get lost somehow. (It happens from time to time.) Be respectful and apologetic. (4) Your big goal there shouldn't be to just get up on stage and sing. Keep things in perspective -- you're there to have fun, which includes a lot of different things (see number 2 above). You'll drive yourself batty if you get obsessed with when you or your friends are going to get up on stage. Get over yourselves! (5) Get there early if it's a Friday or Saturday night. If you get there and it's super crowded, just plan on it taking a couple of hours for your song to come up. If you don't want to wait that long, go somewhere else. If you get there an hour before closing and it's crowded, don't plan on singing. If you give a $20 tip, then these things shouldn't be a problem. That's not corruption, it's just how life works. (6) Don't take your drink up on stage. (7) You can only put in one song slip at a time. If you haven't sung your song yet, don't put another one in. when you go up to sing, you can hand the KJ a new slip, and don't forget a tip! The exception to this is duets. If you have a song in, you can sign up for one duet. So if you go solo, duet, solo, duet, you'll have the most opportunities to sing. (8) You may see people go up there more frequently than you or your friends. Before you get all up in the KJ's grille, notice if they're doing the "solo duet solo" thing. If so, they've just done their homework and figured out how to get up there the most. Again, it's not corruption, it's how the world works. (9) Just remember that you are basically a guest in this place. Yes, you're a customer, but for many of the people at The Mint this is their home away from home, they literally go there every single night. So no matter how often you go, you're a newbie, and you need to be respectful of how things are done there. They have plenty of other customers who have the right attitude, so they don't need to be excessively nice to you, when you have the wrong one. (10) Have fun!

JP, I apologize for posting the review weeks later. I just wanted to thank you for the fantastic work you have performed. You are without a doubt amazing. I have no idea how you were able to stay on him until 6am. The video speaks for it self. Like you said, it has been a roller coaster ride and things can not get any worse, only better from hereon. I have no regret for calling you and thank you for setting me free. I will give your number to Pam so she can contact you regarding her present situation. Anyways, thanks again and I had no idea you were so cute !
