A taste of New York City
I've driven past this place for years. Big mistake.I love pizza. A lot. I wish I had discovered this place a lot sooner. My wife and I ordered a "New York Everything" and it was loaded: Italian sausage, pepperoni, green olives, green peppers, onions, and a blend of three cheeses. The crust was thin and crispy in the middle, thick and chewy around the edge. You want anchovies, too? Not a problem, they'll add 'em, no added cost.My recommendation? Try it now. You'll come back again.

Gas Lantern
512 Madison St(931) 906-1000
Clarksville, TN 37040 -
Wonderful evening
My wife and I visited the Gas Lantern Italian restaurant to celebrate her birthday. What a magnificent way to spend an evening. We had plans for later in the evening, so I had made reservations (must have) for 5:30 Friday afternoon. We were shown to our table by the hostess, with no delay. The dining area comprises four rooms in a home originally built in the late 1800s. Our waiter appeared very soon with hot bread and seasoned olive oil. Both my wife and I ordered wine. I was unsure what wine would best complement pasta with the shrimp-and-scallop cream sauce that I planned to order, but the chef's recommendation suited my taste perfectly. We both started our meal with the house salad, with romaine lettuce, various vegetables, and a balsamic dressing. Our main course was presented as soon as we finished our salads. My shrimp and scallop pasta was magnificent. The bay scallops were tasty and tender. The large shrimp were succulent and perfectly textured. My wife had penne pasta with a sauce of shrimp, tomatoes, and peppers. The only blot on the evening was the fact that the sauce was spicier (hotter) than she had anticipated. Our waiter was attentive without smothering; service was timely and unobtrusive. Decor is turn-of-the-century and very tasteful. The prices are just a little steep, so the Gas Lantern probably won't be a weekly stop. But, for a special occasion, it's a no-brainer. The menu changes with the season, so you may not see your favorite dish on the menu. It doesn't matter. Just pick something, anything. You won't be disappointed.

Ruby Tuesday Restaurant
Serving Your Area(931) 221-0330 -
Not what it used to be
Ruby Tuesday used to be a favorite place to eat. The menu was varied, selections were plentiful; the food was consistent, and you could eat a decent meal without taking a second mortgage on your home. I'm not sure when this changed.Last weekend, my daughter and her family visited from out of town. We had Sunday dinner at Ruby Tuesday. The first thing that struck me was the small number of items on the menu. The second thing that struck me was how expensive EVERYTHING was. The third thing that struck me was how mediocre the meal was. I had an 8-ounce sirloin, ordered medium rare. Granted, sirloin isn't the best cut of meat. Even though the steak was done to order, it just wasn't as tender as a sirloin should have been. I'm also not sure what it says when the most numerous selections on the menu are burgers.I regret to say that Ruby Tuesday is no longer a favored place to eat. We'll probably check back periodically, must to see if anything has changed. Unfortunately, I think that Ruby Tuesday may be pricing themselves out of a fairly important market: those who are on a limited budget, but still want to make a special evening. I think that in the future, you'll find these folks at Applebees, one of the Roadhouse eateries, or even an up-scale pizzeria.

Great Escape 16
1810 Tiny Town Rd(931) 920-8800
Clarksville, TN 37042 -
I'm a movie fan. And ....
I'm a fan of Great Escape. My wife and I usually see AT LEAST one movie a week, sometimes more. We were anxious for Great Escape to open, if for no other reason than to provide some competition for the only other movie chain in town--and they desperately NEEDED some competitition, but that's another review.Great Escape does have a wide variety of movies--with 16 screens, they OUGHT to. If you have a problem with hearing, they offer--at no charge--headphones to provide additional amplification. THAT is a great service, and they're the only theater in the Clarksville/Hopkinsville/Oak Grove area that offers it.Great Escape offers a snack bar with a wide variety of snacks and candies; they offer both Senior Citizen and military discounts; they have a party room to help you host your kids' celebrations; and they offer--again, at no charge--a bonus card that delivers free popcorn, soft drinks, candy, and even movie tickets.Great Escape is a great addition to the Clarksville/Hopkinsville/Oak Grove area entertainment scene.
