I had a fabulous experience with Jimmy Cooper. We needed our couch repaired---the frame had cracked in the middle of a knot, causing half of it to sag. We requested quotes from several different places, and no one else was willing to attempt fixing it. Everyone told us to buy a new couch, but it's the most comfortable piece of furniture we've ever owned, and we were determined to keep it. Jimmy replaced the broken boards in our frame and reattached the springs for a very reasonable price, in a reasonable amount of time. He also repaired a ripped cushion. While making the requested repairs, he discovered that one of the braces in the back of the couch had also cracked, and he fixed that as well while still honoring the amount he initially quoted us. His sons picked up and delivered our couch in the promised time frame, and were polite, respectful, and friendly. They were careful to keep the couch clean and not track dirt on the carpet, and helped me put the house back together once all the furniture moving was done. I could not be more thrilled with the quality of the repair and the professionalism of Jimmy and his business. I will take any and all furniture repairs to him in the future!
AFC Upholstery does beautiful work! We contacted AFC to reupholster an antique Duncan Phyfe sofa. They quickly responded within an hour with a competitive estimate for the work and the amount of fabric required (given the fabric repeat pattern). AFC arranged to pick up the sofa -free of charge- within a day and said the turnaround would be 3-4 weeks (plus 1 week to order fabric). When they picked up the sofa, they also noticed damaged webbing on the bottom and recommended repair for a nominal fee. AFC also suggested use of an adjacent shop, 'FabricsForLess' which has a good selection of fabric. To our surprise, the sofa reuphostery was actually completed and delivered within a week of receiving the fabric! We are very pleased with the results and will definitely contact them for other upholstery jobs. The AFC owner and delivery crew were very professional.
Bernard Mumford and his shop refinished a hundred year old Mason and Hamlin parlor grand piano. It has been in our family since the early 1900's and moved around quite a lot. It was in good shape but needed restoration of the wood, keys and brass. Bernard took it away in May and returned it in August. What a beautiful job he did. It is gorgeous. He worked hard getting the appropriate materials (and when he could not, made them himself). His price was more than fair considering the hours spent in stripping it and refurbishing it. He invited us to the shop a number of times so we could observe the process and make suggestions. Bernard was extremely accommodating. If you have any piece you value but needs restorative work Bernard Mumford is your man.
