Orchid Japanese Restaurant

Excellent Japanese fare

My husband and I had dinner at Orchid with our 2 yr old this evening. We were graciously welcomed into a clean comfortable dining room with pleasant music and waited on like King, Queen and Prince!  My husband and I shared delicious green tea and Nigori sake while our son dr...moreank water brought in a special cup by the waiter. We then proceeded to share a delectable meal together from the "buffet" menu = 24.95 each for my husband and I (our son was free bc under 3yrs).  I write "buffet" bc as others have noted the menu is really "all you can eat" brought to your table as opposed to true "buffet". We were given a button to push whenever we needed service and our table was stocked with paper menus and pencil to order at want. Our dinner: miso soup (which my son drank straight from the bowl and could not get enough so we ordered more for him!), seaweed salad (straightforward and fresh), pork dumplings with sweet/sour sauce (big hit), chicken udon (not greasy but full of flavor), and sushi. The sushi was fresh and delicious! My husband and I are sushi fanatics but it was our son's first sushi experience; and we all loved it! We had the dragon roll, tuna roll, rainbow roll, spicy girl roll, spicy tuna roll, and a crab/avocado roll with masago. Everything was made perfectly!  Our waiter explained that their concept is to mimic Chinatown (such as in NYC or SanFran) where small portions of multiple entrees are brought out in succession - which I liken to tapas -Asian style.  Although it is better than tapas or Chinatown bc you only pay one price no matter how much you order! If you want to only order a few apps/rolls/entrees then you can pick and choose from an individually priced menu.  So really there is an option for every budget. We will be frequenting this restaurant and wish it all the success it deserves!view less

Arthur Murray Dance Studio - Raleigh/Brier Creek

Glad I did it!

Like many I was totally apprehensive about going to take dancing lessons. I managed to avoid the dance floor during my high school and college years, but as I entered the workforce I found myself in situations where dancing was becoming more and more needed. I googled ...moredance lessons and found lots of choices. Being a comparison shopper I tried several studios in the Raleigh area. By the time I got to Arthur Murray I was expecting the same old "song and dance" (pun totally intended). I was very surprised. From the time I walked in I found a truly professional atmosphere. I was greeted by my instructor and the manager. Since I was there for a free lesson, I knew they were going to try to sell me lessons -- all the others did. But at Arthur Murray the manager was very upfront about it and actually made the entire enrolling process fun. My instructor was great, she made me feel very comfortable and proved to me that even a clod with two left feet can learn to dance. I enjoyed it so much that I am now a regular member. The staff is great, as a professional in an ever evolving field, I find it very exciting to see the staff being trained and learning from the coaches they regularly have at the studio. I have heard many people say Arthur Murray is expensive, but when you factor in all the group classes that are available along with the practice parties and video studies, the value for the dollar is exceptional! I would encourage everyone to check out Arthur Murray of RALEIGH!. view less

Angus Barn Pavilion

I was introduced to the Angus ...

I was introduced to the Angus Barn by friends (John & Shirley) whilst on holiday. Before writing this review I have read through some of the reviews listed below and first off I could not recommend the Chop House as one reviewer suggested as just by chance the day be...morefore we were due to go to the AB and staying at the nearby Marriott I called into the Chop House and asked to view the menu. They basically looked at me as if I should not be there !!!! So much for warm and welcoming. Moving on. At the Angus Barn the maitre'd was friendly and welcoming later in the evening he gave us a guided tour of the restuarant, kitchen, wine cellar and function rooms. The service was quite acceptable and as visitors the waitress took time to explain items on the menu and how the food was to be cooked. For those who claim bad food why didn't you complain ? We were asked on two seperate occasions if everything was alright. We had no cause for complaint our steaks were excellent and cooked as requested. The appetiser of beef ribs was such that I could quite happily eaten more as a main. The evening at the Angus Barn, which we shared with our friends was truely wonderful. Give it a try.view less
