At the beginning of the summer I developed a horrible scalp rash. It was so bad that I could barely go 5 minutes without tearing at the skin on my scalp. Everything burned, and worst of all, I was losing hair by the handfuls. Being a woman, this was especially traumatic.
I went to my GP who prescribed clobetasol for seb. dermatitis - which didn't work. Then she sent me to a ""dermatologist"" who basically diagnosed me from the doorway (didn't even LOOK at my scalp) with the same thing and said there was nothing he could do for me - that I would have to suffer like this for the foreseeable future.
One day, in desperation, when I decided I could no longer live like this, I tried to find a new dermatologist. After calling around, I set an appt with Wake Dermatology. Dr. Nasir LISTENED to me, actually LOOKed at my scalp and took a swab of the skin. Then gave me some meds and set a followup appt. The first medications made things a little better, and subsequently they determined the swab was positive for a fungal infection.
These doctors in this office are kind people that are here to practice MEDICINE as a science. When they gave me the diagnosis and said I was curable, I cried. It was just a relief. They never once talked down to me or made me feel silly. But what I am most thankful for is that they have never let me feel like they were giving up. Always a followup appt made to make sure things are improving, with the assurance that if they weren't, they would keep looking for answers. I was never told I would be left to suffer.
I cannot express my gratitude for this caring attitude enough and would highly recommend their office t anyone.
