Reconstructive Surgery
Dr. Der Sarkissian is regularly involved in pro bono endeavors domestically and internationally. Plastic Surgeons

Botox
Botox or Botulinum toxin A is a substance produced by Clostridium bacteria that is known to inhibit muscle contraction. By using Botox to “weaken” specific muscles in the face that are creating deep wrinkles or furrows, the depth of the wrinkles can be lessened. The ideal wrinkles to treat are the horizontal forehead lines, the vertical lines between the brows, and the “crow’s feet” around the corners of the eyes.
Eyelid Surgery
Upper eyelid surgery is aimed at removal of excess skin and fat. The resultant incision is nicely hidden in the upper eyelid crease and within a few days is nearly invisible.
Liposuction
Chin implants are generally placed through a small incision just behind and under the chin. The incision heals rapidly and is well hidden under the chin. Alternatively, the implant may be placed from inside the lower lip. Occasionally, if excess fat is present under the chin, liposuction can be performed at the same time as the chin implant placement to improve the contour of the neck while creating a more prominent chin. Implants can be chosen to create a narrower or fuller chin and some are even designed to soften and improve jowls along the edge of the jaw.
Rhinoplasty
Intrinsic to Rhinoplasty is a regard for breathing abilities. While striving for the desired aesthetic result, an equal significance is placed on maintaining adequate nasal airflow. Some older techniques stressed only the aesthetic, resulting in breathing obstruction. Fortunately, with better understanding of nasal anatomy and function, Rhinoplasty procedures performed today yield a desirable appearance while maintaining normal breathing. In fact, many procedures performed today are aimed at correcting breathing difficulties or contour irregularities resulting from prior “older style” Rhinoplasty procedures.

Face Lift

Otoplasty
Otoplasty refers to any of a number of procedures aimed at correcting the size, curvature, angles, or prominence of the ears. If only one ear is involved, the surgery can match the affected ear to the unaffected ear; if both ears are involved; well established norms of size, angles and prominence are used to set the ears in a more aesthetically pleasing position.
Cosmetic Surgery
Rhinoplasty is the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedure in the United States. The procedure can be performed to reduce the size of the nose, to narrow a “wide” nose, to accentuate aesthetic features with or without changing the size, to straighten a “crooked” nose, or to correct deformities resulting from prior surgery.
Dermabrasion
The objective in treatment of scars is to make them less visible. This can be achieved using a number of techniques of repositioning and/or camouflage. Raised scars can be made more flush with the skin through injections of steroids, dermabrasion of the scar, or laser techniques. Depressed scars can be filled from below using a variety of biocompatible materials or can be removed and replaced with healthy local skin. Occasionally, camouflaging techniques are used to change the orientation of the scar to make it less noticeable. Techniques of Z-plasty, W-plasty, and geometric broken line closure can be discussed during your consultation.
Forehead Lift
Forehead lift surgery is aimed at reducing some of the lines and wrinkles in the forehead and elevating the brows to a higher, more youthful position.

Skin Cancer
As our population continues to age and with the extensive sun exposure over the past several decades, the incidence of skin cancer is rising at an alarming rate. As the face is most exposed to the effects of the sun, facial skin cancers are becoming increasingly common. Unlike skin cancers elsewhere on the body, where removal and reconstruction leaves scars that are easily hidden by clothes, facial skin cancers can leave very visible and disfiguring scars. It is, therefore, important to have your skin checked regularly to assure early diagnosis and to have the areas properly treated.
Dermatology
His extensive knowledge of facial anatomy coupled with experience in plastic surgery, dermatology, and craniofacial surgery enables Dr. Der Sarkissian to treat the “entire face” from the overlying skin, to the fat and muscles beneath the skin, to the supporting bony facial structures. He is thus able to suggest treatments as simple as improving skin surface wrinkles and folds, to techniques that tighten underlying muscles, to procedures that alter the contour of the chin or cheek bones. This extensive analysis of all components of the face and experience with all the available surgical and non-surgical techniques allows Dr. Der Sarkissian to discuss the treatment that will address your facial concerns most effectively.
Acne Treatment
Lesions
Carbon Dioxide and Erbium lasers are available for resurfacing and cutting while pulsed dye or V-Beam lasers are used to treat pigmented lesions.
Chemical Peels
In the morning, apply SPF 30 Sunscreen to protect your skin, as you are prone to sunburn while the chemical peel is increasing the rate of cellular turnover. Your skin may be irritated by touch, which can be treated with VI peel moisturizer for any stinging or dryness. A lightweight, over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream may be useful if you are experiencing discomfort. At the end of the day, you should again use another post-peel towelette to soothe your skin overnight.

Allergies
The technical material composition is Hydroxyapatite in a methylcellulose gel. Since it is a naturally occurring material in human bones, no allergy testing is required.
