Overall
Seating Comfort
Service

I have been to this theater several times over the past month, usually on discount day, the seating is wonderful. The concessions are competitively priced, fresh, and tasty. The fact that you get free refills on medium and large drinks and popcorn is a real plus. The screen image is sharp, although we only watch 2D because my wife is unable to appreciate 3D due to eye health issues. Overall, a much more pleasant experience than going all the way to Ashland where we are given assigned seats and almost have to take out a loan to pay for refreshments.

I had no problem w/ customer service from Amanda when I called. She was friendly polite and hopefully the manager follows through on her taking my info for a query.

Overall
great service.

Due to computer systems change the the online ticket order was down, the manager replied to my concern on fb and was so nice to put my tickets in the safe for me to pick up when convenient.

Overall

Went to see the new OZ movie the screen was very blurry complained several times to the girls at the concession stand who were the only people around. They both finally came and look and said "Yeah I see it". They told us a tech was coming, and when we left we went to get our money back. The manager a heavy set guy was very rude and told us we could not have our money back because we stayed for the whole movie. We told him that the girls who were standing right there said there was a tech coming, and we told the manager the two girls said it was messed up. They girls said I didn't say it was messed up, and we told her you said "Yeah I see it" when we were complaining about it, and you said a tech was coming to fix it....she did not respond to that. The manager said there was nothing wrong with the movie and gave us 4 free tickets. The tickets cannot be used on a 3D movie or a movie in the first 2 weeks of it coming out.....and the movie we saw came out that day and was a 3D movie, and my husband was talking to the manager because we wanted to be able to go see the movie in a better theater, and they manager said you have your tickets have a nice day!! I will be going over his head. We have NEVER complained about a movie there nor have we ever had a bad experience there before, but that manager sat there and basically called us liars, and was just rude. For people in Wheelersburg Movies 10 in Ashland is real 3D and just as far as Portsmouth I will definitely be going to Ashland from now on!!!!

Overall

It is by far the most terrible movie theater I have ever been to. Just as other reviews I have read, the 3D is absolutely aweful. It is blurry throughout the whole movie. The only time it is not is when it has a close up of an actor/actress while not moving. I go out and tell the 2 girls behind the counter and they came to see for themselves. They come in watch for a few minutes and leave. I go back out to see if it was going to be fixed. They told me a tech was on the way. Tech never came... I asked for a manager after the movie and he said "well I've seen it and there is nothing wrong with it". I said "well your two employees seen it and told me a tech was coming". He said "No, there is no tech coming, that was last week". I said " then why would they say that?". Manager said "I don't know", while he gives the girls a look of death... "He said I'll just give you tickets." For one I did not ask for tickets but for another why would I want tickets to a crappy theather that already cost me and my family 40 dollars? So, I said "I am not going to lie and rarely complain". He said " Whatever, you got your tickets." and then goes back into the managers office. Also, to add to it you can hear the other movies going on while watching, which I did not complain about to him. Poorly managed, just fitting for a poor excuse of a movie theater.

This place is the worst cinema...

This place is the worst cinema I've ever been in. Before I go on about how the cinema is, let me just say do not even think about parking in their parking lot. People steal and break in to your cars. There are no cameras monitoring where you park meaning they're not 'liable'.

Their screen is too small, the lights are on (even when the movie is playing) and they do not have soundproof wall so you can hear the movie playing next door. Their seats are really dirty and gross.

I'd honestly rather make the 45 minute drive to Huntington than go to this cinema.

I don't enjoy this theater because I hear the movie/movies in the next room. The food is extremely overpriced and not appetizing. I much rather go to dinner then a movie in Ashland!!!

I went to see Brave at Portsmo...

I recommend going elsewhere.

I went to see Brave in 3D here and it was terrible. The picture was blurry but only in every other scene which is weird. I told the Manager and she essentially told me that she knew there was an issue but because others didn't say anything she couldn't take my complaint seriously. So when I went to leave after 20 min. the general manager told her to give me a free pass (which is only good for 2D movies, 2 weeks after open, and excludes Sony, Columbia, Screen Gems, and TriStar films). The difference of 3D to 2D is $3 so that was $6 for my girlfriend and I. I would recommend driving the 30 min. to see movies in Ashland. The distance is 31.4 miles from this cinema with a car that does roughly 30 MPG it would cost about $8 to get there and back. Their ticket price for 3D is $7.50 so for two people thats $23.00 in Ashland. Portsmouth costs $11.00 for tickets, but Ashland has RealD 3D which is ten times better than Portsmouth 8 Cinema's DLP projection blurry mess. So $22.00 for a terrible 3D movie or $23.00 for a great picture.

Meh...

These folks are the only game in town unless you want to go to Wheelersburg...which is worse...or spend the gas money to go to Ashland or Huntington. That is the better movie-going experience, but for less convenient. I must say, however, that I am quickly coming to the conclusion that I would rather have the better experience for my movie-consuming dollars. The employees at the Portsmouth 8 Cinema haven't figured out yet that for every crude, rude, texting, cell-phone using, seat climbing, ailsle-wandering, poorly socialized idiot they offend by telling them to behave...they will gain 3 respectful, polite regular patrons. They also need to rethink the criteria by which they select the movies they will show. They pander to the above mentioned idiots almost exclusively. For example, they did not offer The Iron Lady. I had to wait for the rental to see Meryl Streep's Oscar Winning performance. If a movie or a performance in a movie is nominated for one of the major awards, it needs to come to their venue. They also need to insulate better for less sound pollution from the other theaters in the theater and the trains constantly chugging by on the neighboring railroad tracks.

Frustrating

I saw the Avengers in 3D and every bit of 20 people were going up and down the isles and walking in front of the screen. I tell the employees that I am getting upset and they tell me they can't to anything about it!!! Nice

Frustrating lines and paper thin walls!

After struggling to keep my place in line for a ticket at the box office that is hidden in the corner and over-run by its position where every person who walks thru the front doors is cutting in front of others by accident, i then tried to watch a movie while hearing the speakers from the movie playing in the adjacent theatre. The whole evening was a frustrating experience.
