Very displeased with the unethical and deceptive business practices of this company and particularly its owner, Alex. Was sold a bracelet that purportedly included 3.25 carats of diamonds. Upon receiving a professional appraisal, I learned that it in fact was only approximately 2.0 carats. When I confronted Alex, who had personally sold me the bracelet (with assurances that he hand-picked each piece of his inventory), he boldly attempted to convince me that the appraisal from independent certified gemologists was incorrect. He explained that we could measure each stone, look up the corresponding carat weight, and then multiply by the number of stones--seemed straightforward enough. But then he tried to convince me that a measurement of 2.10mm was roughly equivalent to 2.9 because "9 is less than 10," which struck me as ridiculous, not credible, and frankly insulting. When asked if he would either refund the equivalent of the missing 1.25 carats or pay the difference to acquire an actual 3.25 carat bracelet as shown on my receipt, he explained that he would not "because then I wouldn't be making money." Apparently he feels that he is always entitled to profit even where consumers have been blatantly misled. He also asserted that he had not personally inspected the bracelet, despite his earlier comments to the contrary and despite having personally handled the bracelet and reviewed his own paperwork in front of me before accepting my money. Upon further discussion, he offered an $80 refund. Having given the offer some thought, I prefer to let him keep the $80 and instead share my experiences with others. It appears that Alex and his company enjoy a healthy collection of positive reviews, so perhaps my experience was an aberration, but the false description followed by the sloppy attempt to further mislead and the insulting offer of $80 to compensate for 1.25 carats of missing diamonds has left a very foul taste in my mouth. Please be wary of the merchandise and perform your own due diligence.Edit: Would not be surprised if this disappears, as the store has already deleted my Facebook review once. Perhaps that is how they maintain so few negative reviews...?

I recently visited Medallion Jewelers where I purchased a vintage Sapphire ring for a Christmas present for my wife. I was very impressed with the choice of rings available, both vintage and creatively designed by Alex. The entire buying experience was positive due to Alex's knowledge and friendly manner. I am not well versed in what to look for in gem stones but Alex was very patient in explaining the different options without a hard sell. I would recommend Medallion jewelers to anyone in the market for quality jewelry

Short and Simple: My ring is beyond any of my expectations and I could not be more impressed or pleased! I got engaged in May and was referred to Alex by a friend who had also worked with him to create a custom masterpiece. It is a very small shop so it takes some time to get on the schedule for custom work, but he is absolutely worth the wait. When an opportunity for him to work on my ring opened up in early August, I jumped at the chance to get it done. I supplied the diamond and left the rest in his hands... and it only took him 2 weeks to completely build it from scratch! When I picked it up this Monday, it was far superior than anyones work I had ever seen. It turned out unbelievably stunning! But the best part? His prices were beyond reasonable!Thank you to Alex and the kind staff at Medallion Jewelers, I am one happy lady!

First time I have ever took in jewlery to sell....The staff was fabulous and so friendly and very patient. Loved the place....so lovely. Was sent there by a coworker and I just have to pass it on to others. I would totally recommend Medallion Jewlers to all my family and friends. Wonderful!!!

I have bought and sold rings from this gentleman under happy and sad circumstances over several years. Each time I was impressed by his fairness -- I would even say generosity. It's also a very nice shop and the work they do is first rate without breaking the bank. Doesn't hurt that it's easy to like the guy.

I bought a march birth stone online through a bidding opition and had an idea of what style and type of ring I would like. I looked all over at different jewelers but didnt see anything that I had in mind. I started talking to about 6 different jewelers, I went in to Medallion jewelers and talked to Alex I explained that I work six days a week and dont have a lot of spare time explained what I was looking for and told him I havent seen any thing like this in any books or stores. he took some notes I gave him my email adress he and he started corresponding by email. He sent me some auto cad pictures that were so close to what I had in mind that I made a few corrections sent them back and wound up having made my once in a life time custom made ring, to my specifications and at a very reasonable price. I have delt with alot of other jewelers but I think Alex is one of the best, most professional honest and straight shooting jewelers that I have done bussiness with to date.

Took an engagement ring-custom made from my finance's family members rings to a pop chain store that I had done business prior. The ring needed sizing & change to 'white gold'- that jeweler (abbrev version) basically said in a derogatory tone dont 'dip it' u need to change the setting and then after looking at it said"we wouldn't want the liability of touching it" take it to a custom jeweler. They did say there was a place on 4th and Alder (thank goodness). After reading reviews and services for Medallion Jewelers- I took it in and not only did they authenticate the ring, sized, extra rhodium coated & gave me top $ for a trade of other rings- but they Polished & enhanced the ring so much it looks like a whole new ring. It is remarkably BRILLIANT and GORGEOUS!! ALEX was VERY informative, friendly & reassuring. Told my story to friends/coworkers who have seen the ring before & after & 4 people have asked me already for Medallion's contact info. Thank You ALEX! now will go nowhere else..

In this economy every dime counts, and sometimes you run out of them and need to sell something. That just happened to me and, after checking a lot of stores both in Portland and in Vancouver, I chose Medallion Jewelers...and I am so glad that I did. The owner is a lovely man and totally honest. I had a piece of jade that he removed from the gold chain it was on, then he told me to keep the jade because it is valuable. He could have kept it and I would never have know that it is valuable. Then he told me to take it to a jade dealer. I highly recommend Medallion. I don't think you can go wrong with this company!!!

I really had to pay this bill. I got there 5 minutes late and they waited for me also they offered the most on my gold piece. just sold some old gold jewelry to them and they are great people and a great company. Go see them first if you are selling any precious metals. They gave me the best price hands down.I took the same items to another local store that had put a coupon in The Oregonian promising 20 percent more with the coupon. Their quote was $340 less even with their supposed coupon bonus.I'll only do business with Medallion now.

We were searching for a diamond that would fit a setting we already owned. After educating ourselves on every aspect of a diamond purchase we set out on foot in downtown Portland to visit a variety of diamond retailers and wholesalers. After visiting many of these merchants we were about to give up and head home. Standing on the corner of Third and Alder we spotted Medallion. We had time for one more stop and headed in. Alex was serving a customer as we took a look around. When we told him what we were looking for he immediately brought out several selections that met our criteria. His low key demeanor and knowledge was a refreshing break from our previous experiences. The diamonds Alex showed us exceeded our expectations coming with GIA certification were by far the best value we’d encountered. We decided on the diamond we liked, settled on a fair price and glad to report we are very happy with our purchase. We would highly recommend visiting Medallion Jewelers first!

I left until the last minute trying to find an "everyday" wedding band set for 20th anniversary, thinking would be easy. Not so. However, Medallion put together an assortment for me, rushed sizing the rings that day, and delivered to my work, since I was without personal vehicle. My error, I had the incorrect sizes, and they have resized the rings again without any problem. I was very satisfied with both price and service, and beleive I have found my 'personal" jeweler in Portland.

My son and I anre native american/Irish and come from a strong cultural background. We wanted ring that we designed with our family name, a medicine wheel design and stones thqat would represent the four basic colors of people. That design is part of a tradition that we followcalled "one heart", which means that all of us are equal in the eyes of creation, no matter the color of our skin, language we speak etc. We brought the idea to Medallion because they had already made our custom wedding rings with white gold, diamonds, and our children's birthstones. What can I say? The rings are amazing! He took our vision and ideas and made them a reality. The family rings with the medicine wheel for my son and I have actually strengthened our bond. We wear them all the time. As a performing artist, I recieve comments about the rings all the time. Also, the folks at Medallion are caring, highly knowledgable, and the most talented in jewelry that I have ever met.

I can't say enough good things about Medallion Jewelers!! I started buying from them about 2 years ago when we were getting ready for our wedding. We bought our wedding bands, in18 kt gold there, as well as a solitaire ring. The prices were incredible-- way better than at the chain jewelers, which was surprising because I always assumed the boutique jewelers would be A LOT more expensive. Since then we have bought several other pieces there because they are affordable, offer amazing customer service- they know our names (and our dog's name!) never pressure us, have let us put jewelry on layaway, and also because they have a GREAT lifetime exchange policy. When now, two years later, we decided we didn't like the solitaire ring anymore, they exchanged it for us for something completely different. And when I misplaced my beautiful wedding band, they had something extremely inexpensive that I could get, for in the meantime, until I find my band. I also love that they have traditional piece

I have a bracelet which broke. I originally took it to another repair shop and the guy said it was too much of a hassle to fix. I then took it to Medallion Jewelers and they not only fixed it, but I can't even see where the repair is! The service was great and they are very friendly. I will definitely use them again and refer business to them.

I love Cindy! This is my second purchase from Medallion Jewelers and again another great experience with a new beautiful piece of jewelry to take home. I purchased a gorgeous necklace that i will be wearing for my wedding. Cindy is the most knowledgeable, friendly woman and has been so helpful.
