Wonderful Homecooking, Great Staff, Good Prices- Only the interior design is Industrial!
We've been regulars at the Industrial for well over three years, since they opened. For us it's like a refuge for homecooking on the nights and weekend mornings when we just can't, for what ever reason, bring ourselves to cook. Among the things we love- the grass-grazed beef (ribeye, burger, take your pick), the chicken potpie, the mac & cheese.. almost anything that comes off the BBQ grill they periodically wheel out onto the walk. The portions are always generous and the prices, especially for the quality of the food, are quite reasonable.
As far as the staff is concerned, we are huge fans... they can be casual but there's no way any of them would ever be brusque, much less rude, without considerable provocation. We have two very large and, to us, very lovable that we always bring with us when weather permits. They know the place and love the waiters (and the beef) as much as we do.
Finally, I can't imagine anybody being oblivious enough to think this is a place for kids - the design is industrial: hard surfaces, sharp corners, tables obviously designed for adults. If Serena's husband needs a place for kids with a happy hour (?????) I suggest he try any of the McCormick & Schmick's establishments.
If you're looking for a genuinely Portland place with wonderful food, an affordable/drinkable wine list, good brews, and decent cost... the Industrial should be at the top of your list.
