History of Huber’sHuber’s was established in 1879 at the corner of 1st and Morrison in downtown Portland, Oregon. It was originally called “The Bureau Saloon” until it was purchased by Mr. Frank Huber and the name was changed to Huber’s. In 1891, Mr. Huber hired Jim Louie, a Chinese immigrant, to do the cooking. In those days if you bought a drink you would get a free turkey sandwich and some coleslaw. With just a few booths and bench seats in the old bar, most of the patrons would go around and converse with a drink in one hand and a turkey sandwich in the other. This is how the turkey tradition started at Huber’s.Huber’s moved to its present location in 1910 inside the Historic Oregon Pioneer Building. When Mr. Frank Huber died a year later in 1912, Jim Louie took on the management of the business for the Huber family. When the Prohibition Era came around, Jim was going to close the old bar but encouraged by the patrons, Jim kept the business going as a restaurant that specialized in a traditional turkey dinner. In 1941, Jim’s nephew, Andrew, joined the staff and helped formalize the partnership between the Huber and the Louie family with a 50-50 deal. Andrew took over the management in 1946 when Jim, after working his normal day, died at the restaurant. Mr. Huber’s son, Jack, sold his interest in the old restaurant to Andrew in 1952. In the early 1970’s, Andrew’s son, James Kai Louie, joined the Huber’s staff. James developed Huber’s signature drink, Spanish Coffee. The drink is made table side with great flair. Huber’s is now the largest user of Kahlua in the U.S. by an independent restaurant.Come visit us today.

Yes, I did honor this reservation -THIS

Yes, I did honor this reservation -THIS WAS MOTHER'S DAY\r The server was Sanderson Table 84/11-outside.\r I made a reservation with 'Open Table'. I requested ADA seating preference as my Mother is mobility, vision and hearing impaired, thus the dining room was my preference. The hostess had no record of the requested seating nor I think of the reservation at all! As she proceeded to sit us in the bar area. I told he... view more

huber's restaurant

Worst service I've ever had in Portland, I've given better service when voluteering at soup kitchens. The food was bland and I bet the original owners are turning over in their graves. It's now just a bar with marginal food and the bar is loud and slow..and to top it off...the toilets were plugged and sewer water everywhere...will never go there again.

Huber's: a big disappointment in service.

I've lived in Portland for 5 years and have never been to Huber's. A lot of my friends have come here for years, saying it was a great place to meet up, have drinks, enjoy good happy hour food, and Spanish coffee. After the Kevin Hart comedy show on Saturday, January 8th, my wife and I along with 4 of my friends decided to come here to get some late night happy hour and they especially wanted to take me here because ... view more

Great Spanish Coffee, Great Menu, and Great Happy Hour!!

Huber's was established in 1879, no wonder it's called the oldest restaurant in Portland. When I worked in banking, (in the 80's) this was the go-to-place. Their Spanish Coffee is to die for!! Watching your server make the Spanish Coffee is beyond satisfying, there is no rush, each ingredient goes in slowly being ""kiss...ed"" by the next ingredient, it is set aflame, and just when you think it cannot get any better,... view more

Great Happy Hour Food Menu

They most definetly do not have a young crowd (at all), but the happy hour food menu is great! The food is actually really good. The bartender is amazing! He seem so relaxed even when it is busy.

Old school staple

Starting with your walk down the hall make sure and look at all the old photos. The history adds to your experience of the meal. Next, have the turkey and ham dinner with delicious pumpkin pie. Finally finish with the original Spanish coffee made at your table.

Perfect place for a first date!

A great little hide-away owned by a multi-generational family who are as sweet and hospitable, as they are successful. Thanksgiving here is a must. Book it now!
