- In 1939 Joseph Gerber hired a local knife maker to build 25 sets of kitchen cutlery to be given as Christmas gifts. The knives were so popular that Joseph Gerber left his advertising agency to start Gerber Legendary Blades. The unique style and high quality manufacturing of Gerber cutlery soon developed wide spread acclaim. In fact, Gerber Legendary Blades are the only cutlery on display in New York s Museum of Modern Art. From very early on, Gerber collaborated with top knife designers, setting a standard of quality for everyone else to follow. Renowned designers such as Al Mar, Bob Loveless, Paul Poehlmann, Blackie Collins, William Harsey Jr. and Ernest Emerson have all designed knives for Gerber. In 2002 this tradition continued as Gerber released the Silver Trident, designed by Chief James Patches Watson and Bill Harsey Jr. Today, Gerber continues to design and manufacture unique, high quality outdoor recreation products.

Gerber NO LONGER stands for excellence or complete customer satisfaction. I have owned my Gerber knives for ever, and my needle nose multi tool for 13 years. I recently bought a new expensive Gerber Blunt nose multi tool and had it less then 8 months. Well, I went to cut a piece of wire and the blades broke. I did not realize they were "replaceable blades" and are NOT warranted. Darn, they are expensive to replace and I can't afford to keep replacing them every 8 months or less. My needle nose has lasted 13 years, I just found a blunt nose would be more useful to me at this time. Well, it sucks that they now sell a tool that has replaceable blades and they don't last, so they get you to HAVE TO SPEND more money on their product. I will let everyone I know hear about my story and I hope no one at my place of work where I retired from ever buys Gerber again. I wasted over 60 dollars on this Gerber with replaceable blades that did not last and are very expensive to replace.
