Women's Healthcare of Port St Lucie

My partner and I went here for her first prenatal visit. We met with a nurse who was rather put off when we asked as to what all would be taking place during the appointment. When my partner courageously disclosed her history of childhood sexual abuse, explained why these types of appointments were challenging (but not impossible) for her, and requested that the pap smear that was originally planned for the appointment be postponed to another appointment, the nurse dispassionately and rudely responded that with my partner's "severe limitations" it would be better for us to find another doctor's office.



Given that one out of three women are the victims of some type of sexual violence before the age of 18, it should not be too much to expect that personnel in a gynecological/obstetrics office be familiar with the impact that kind of violence has on women and take care with patients who belong to this population. The fact that they could not be bothered to be understanding, let alone compassionate, is at best unethical, and at worst, re-traumatizing to women who have already been traumatized. We will NEVER return to this office for any reason and will encourage every woman we know to steer clear of here.
