Gregory Van Dam, Psy.D. is the director and head Clinical Psychologist at Comprehensive Psychology Services. Dr. Van Dam has extensive training and experience working with pre-teens, adolescents, adults, and the geriatric population. While in school completing his doctorate in Clinical Psychology, Dr. Van Dam trained at Miami Children’s Hospital where he worked extensively within the crisis stabilization unit as well as with the outpatient therapy services. Additionally, he provided therapy to students at elementary, middle, and high schools in the Miami-Dade area, working as a therapist at The Institute for Child and Family Health. During his pre-doctoral internship, Dr. Van Dam focused on psychotherapy and assessment with children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. This internship included rotations through a state funded group foster home, addiction treatment centers, and the Baker Act crisis stabilization unit. In the crisis unit, Dr. Van Dam focused on severely depressed patients and their families to ensure their safety and assist them on their road to recovery. During his post-doctoral residency, Dr. Van Dam administered full battery psychological evaluations to all populations between the ages of 2.5 – 64 years old for the purposes of applying for disability with the state of Florida. Since the completion of Dr. Van Dam's studies, he has been working with both the adult and geriatric population in skilled nursing facilities, where he treats patients who are experiencing medical complications that have manifested psychologically. Much of his work centers on working with patients and their families on acquiring the skills needed to adjust to the emotional difficulties and physical limitations that the patient is experiencing at at this time. In conjunction with a facility's other departments, Dr. Van Dam works with patients undergoing rehabilitation to increase motivation, establish attainable goals, and increase compliance with the treatment.
