MRI
Parotid surgery is performed under general anesthesia and lasts three to five hours. In order to confirm your diagnosis as well as the severity of the problem, first a fine needle aspiration and an MRI are performed. A small S-shaped incision is made in front of the ear, extending from the earlobe to the upper neck. Depending on the severity of your parotid issues, the superficial gland is removed, or the entire parotid gland as well as affected nerve and portion of the facial nerve. The wound is sutured, and a drain is placed behind the ear to allow any fluids to drain during the healing process.
Chemotherapy
There are a number of medications that have been attributed to temporary hearing loss, a loss of balance and permanent damage to components of the ears. Currently, around 200 medications that are still prescribed today have been shown to affect one’s balance or hearing. The most common medications in this list include chemotherapy drugs, loop diuretics, erectile dysfunction pills, antibiotics, and certain forms of aspirin.

Ear Surgery
Ear surgery is performed to treat a range of conditions affecting the internal structures of the ear. It is performed to correct defects or results of trauma that have caused functional problems, such as hearing loss or balance issues. Ear surgery is commonly performed to place tubes and repair punctured ear drums, amongst other issues.
