We have taken our dogs to Dr. Schuerger for decades and have received the best in care for them. My father was a doctor and was very impressed by Dr. Schuerger's knowledge and believed he was an excellent veterinarian.

Recently, Dr. Schuerger saved my dog's life from a heartworm infection. He was very concerned and did much research to be certain that he was providing the latest, most accurate care in heartworm treatment. The process is lengthy and difficult, but Dr. Schuerger was supportive at every step. I'm so grateful for the care he provided for my dog so that I can continue to enjoy her company for years to come.

Dr. Schuerger and his staff are wonderful. I have been to many other vets and always come back to him. Their prices are reasonable and he truly cares about the pet. He does not try to push expensive and unnecessary procedures. To the people who comment on his personality, would you rather have someone who knows what they are doing or nice to talk to? If you are respectful to him he will be the same. Will recommend thornwood veterinary hospital to everyone i know

My only recommendation for this place is to keep your animal far away! The recepionist was unfriendly and irritable when I arrived. I waited in the dirty waiting room for 40 minutes before being seen by the vet who was extremely condescending the entire visit. I brought my dog in for a routine ear infection which he gets with the change of seasons and ended up at this location only because it is close to my house and they had availability. When the vet began examining my dog, he asked what my level of education was. I laughed at the question and answered that I was a college graduate but asked what that had to do with my dogs' ear. He told me so that he could understand "how he should communicate with me". He was rough with my dog and I ended up refusing his recommendations and only paying for the visit. I will never step foot in here again and will gladly wait a few extra days to see a professional. This place is something out of the twilight zone!

I have been going to Thornwood for over 20 years with my cats and dogs, he is extremely intelligent and some people have a hard time understanding him because of his scientific explanations. I have a science background so I do see where people may think he is being cold or rude, when really they just aren't understanding the medical terminology. He is the most reasonable priced, up front and honest vet I have ever met. I have been ripped off and lied to when I've used anyone else during emergencies when Dr. was not available. I had my cat put down several months ago and the staff couldn't have been more kind.

I think the people writing the negative reviews need to realize what the purpose of a vet is. It's not to be your best friend and joke around with you, it's to treat your animal and make sure they feel better!! While the Dr is eccentric, he is brilliant and knows what he is doing. We brought him a 5 week old kitten with some kind of parasite in her chest and he extracted it and took great care of her. He gave me so much information about how to care for her and what to do with her. So he's not the most friendly Dr- his job isn't to be friendly. I think people really need to stop being sensitive and "man up" if you will- we got great affordable care from a knowledgeable doctor.

We used to take our family dog to this veterinarian because he was close to our house at the time. He was mean back then and these reviews suggest his poor bedside manner has worsened over the past twenty years. If you live nearby, you may want to consider Dr. Vana in Kennedy Township.

This vet is the worst I've ever been to. I took a friend and her dog to this vet because her dog was extremely sick and suffering. It was time for her faithful companion of 17 years to be put to sleep. Now, I also have had dogs that have gotten old, sick and needed to end their suffering. It's difficult to make the decision to let them go. Our dogs are family and we love them very much. Every time I had a vet put my dogs to sleep, they were sympathetic and were humane about the whole process. This vet was NOT. He was cold the entire time and did not offer condolences at any time. But that's not the worst part. Every time that I had to do this (as well the times she has had to do the same in the past) the vet gave two injections. The first was to calm the dog so I could hold him while he passed. The second was to let them pass without pain. This vet gave just one shot and didn't tell us that he was going to do it this way. He had his assistant hold the dog still and roughly jammed the needle into the dog's leg. We thought that that was going to be the sedative so my friend could hold her dog as he passed. As blood dripped onto the table from his rough injection, the dog cried and yelled in pain for nearly a minute, as the vet took his time. After he emptied the syringe, he didn't even look up at us and said "the brain is dead now, so you can touch him". We were stunned and couldn't believe what had just happened. When we asked why he didn't do it like the times we had our dogs put to sleep in the past, he said "I didn't think that it needed to be done that way". My friend cried her eyes out for two days, upset that her dog died basically screaming in pain. I advise anyone thinking of taking their animal to this man, to look elsewhere and not trust him. If you need to have to put your pet to sleep, don't take him to this vet. He'll just kill them painfully.

Terrible!

I am so disgusted with this vet. He was rude, he was rough with my cat, and he did not answer any of my questions. I will never be back and never recommend him to anyone who actually cares about their pet!!!

unhappy

I took my dog there after he got hit by a car. He checked him over and sent him along his way w some meds without taking an x ray. Dr was stand off like he barely wanted to touch my dog and when I asked questions he seemed to talk down to me saying only ask one question at a time. And told me not to be concerned w my other questions right now. I took him home and knew he was not ok and went to another vet. They found out he had a collapsed lung and a little bleeding. If he could not properly treat my dog or wanted to he should have told me that and I would have went else where. Extremely upset w the treatment he received.
