Lee Barton... Hair Artist
The atmosphere is bright, pleasant and friendly. Staff was always smiling, and made me feel comfortable, and I wasnt even the one getting a haircut! The couch was comfortable, and it was a lot different from the beauty shops I am used to. They even had a Keurig, so that also got my vote.
Start with younger daughter. Her hair is a complete jungle, and sometimes I wonder what strange creatures live in that jungle. *insert image of Where the WIld Things Are* The hair that was down past her ribs, always tangled and ratty 10 minutes after brushing is no more. Originally she wanted ""like 2 inches off and some side bangs"". I encouraged her to be a little more extreme and assured her that if she didnt like it, it wasnt a big deal, we had lots of time before school started. She is very....vocal...when brushing her hair. Ouch ouch that hurts stop that dont touch me is the usual chant. Lee was very patient and used a comb and went through her mess little by little, and very gentle. I didnt her a single yelp or whine from her. He paid very close attention to what she said, asking her every step of the way for her opinion. When he chopped the first 4 inches or so off, I thought OMG she is gonna flip, but she actually was getting into it. By the time she was done, my little jungle woman looked beautiful. I was almost in tears. Even the shampoo girl/receptionist was shocked so much was cut, and I kept hoping she wouldnt freak out, and she didnt, and she LOVES her new hair. She wasnt too keen on a ""boy"" touching her hair, but I assured her that it would be ok, and now, she wont go anywhere else. She liked the princess treatment she got, and liked being talked to like an adult. Lee asked her questions, and scary enough, knew who Selena Gomez was, and picked up a recent magazine and asked her what she thought of Taylor Lautner. Either he is keeping up on current trends all the way across the board OR...he did his homework, knowing he had teen customers coming soon. Either way, I appreciated that he took the time to talk to her about things that interested her. After much blowdrying and brushing, my baby girl came out looking like a short woman, and is pleased.
Older daughter is the other end of the spectrum. Where Jaime has thick long hair, She has thin short hair. Cher wanted to do something radical, but not too crazy, something different but not so different that she would hate it. This of course was relayed to Lee, who took the time to look at some pictures with her, and he actually LOOKED at them. Not the usual *glance"" ""yeah I can do that"" but he actually looked at them and listened to what she said. Lots of snipping, blow drying, conversation and fluffing later, she was finished and pleased.
Both girls said they liked the princess treatment they got, and felt like he actually cared about what he was doing. Younger daughter said she liked that he was humming with the radio, and I THINK I heard him sing a line or two. Older daughter said she liked that he was quiet, and when I asked what she meant, she said she liked that he wasnt prying and asking too many personal questions like every other person who has touched her has done
The royal treatment mentioned in a previous review is quite true...the girls were treated like miniature royalty, and it was a great experience for them.
