Brought my car to Jimmy for an inspection. Seemed like a nice guy. Asked him if he had some goo to take a sticker off of my rear windshield. He said yes. Picked up the car and a few days later my stereo begins cutting out on a rainy day when I put the defrost on. Didn't think much about it since spring/summer was upon us, but later noticed that where the sticker was removed the defrost wasn't working. Called the dealership about it and THEY said "I'm sure your mechanic won't mind fixing the problem, even if he has to replace the windshield at no cost to you. He's got insurance for these types of mishaps". Called Jimmy about it, told him it would be about $300 to replace the windshield and he said he wouldn't do it, that it was too small of a claim for him to bring to his insurance, and for me to pay someone else to fix the DAMAGE HE DID to my vehicle. He also said THAT'S WHAT I GET for putting a sticker on my rear window. Instead of using some goo to take off the sticker he used a razor blade that cut the VERY VISIBLE defroster/antenna wires. But hey, "that's what I get"! Well hey Jimmy, a bad review is what you get for your very bad attitude and heinous customer service. Don't trust him - he'll screw you over if push comes to shove.

I had my Honda 2003 inspected here. Jimmy and his wife are hardworking americans and a great team. Service was thorough, efficient and fast. place was clean and well organized. I encountered some difficulty locating this place and I recommend jimmy to place a sign next to the main road that points to his shop. I would come back again and I highly recommend this place.

Overall

The place is schizophrenic. Seriously.

For starters, Jimmy truly seems to be a good auto tech. Not only did he do a good state inspection and fix my car the handful of times I’ve taken it to him, but he told me about other potential issues that i should watch for, based on the make and model of my car. He is friendly, professional, and seems to know what he's talking about. If he weren't, in my opinion, a little expensive, i would totally give him and his work 5 stars. I would say he’s 4.5 stars.

And then ... there's his secretary, whom i presume is his wife or girlfriend, or something. As friendly and competent as Jimmy is - she seems to possess the customer service skills of an axe murderer. With every single encounter, she's been rude, curt, and crass. My most recent incident was after i had several phone conversations with her about my repair and she was OUTRAGEOUSLY rude over the phone. So much so, i considered just hanging up on her, but realized she had my car in her possession. When i stopped in to pick up my car, I had a great conversation with Jimmy and then had to see “her” to pay my bill. She was even more awful in person than over the phone. When I gave her my credit card, she grunted that she was going to charge me an additional % to cover her costs. Huh? Now call me crazy, but they advertise that they take credit cards. When i questioned the reason for the additional costs, she said it wasn't fair that i expected her to absorb the processing costs of the bank/credit card company. I tried to explain to her "the cost of doing business", but then realized that i was wasting my breath. Instead, i took money out of my wallet (I think it was $300 ish bucks) and paid her in cash. Would you believe the finishing school dropout wasn’t able to give me the ~$10 in change I was due? Seriously? Seriously. How is that fair? If I could give her negative stars, I would. I will offer this advice though … enroll in a business school program that offers a charm school minor degree.

Honestly, Jimmy seems like a good guy and a good auto technician. Even though he is a bit expensive, he seems to be worth his price. His other half is so foul and skeevy, I’ve started taking my car elsewhere.

Loved it here! Never been to an auto shop like this. I sat there while my car was being fixed and chatted with everyone coming in and out. Very personable, fair priced and FAST! I have told a few people already about this place and will continue to do so.

All in all I had a great experience, did miss the turn and had to sit through a couple lights but it was dark. Their lot was lit and I was able to leave my car at night feeling pretty secure. Lindsay called me the next day and told my vehicle was ready by 10:00 am. Jimmy found a hose off my engine and put it on for me. He ordered the correct hose from Cadillac and did not charge me that much to put it on.

Ill tell my friends about this shop

Jimmy's service was competent and quick. Plus he was nice on top of it. I was struck by how friendly he was...never been to a mechanic quite like him before. You can tell he takes customer service really seriously. I think its because he's young and trying to make a name for himself. He's definitely motivated.

Had never heard of this place before, found them through Groupon. The lady in the office that scheduled everything was VERY willing to work with me to schedule when it was convenient for me and work around my work schedule to get my car inspected. They have an honest business and that is nice being a woman who can actually trust a mechanic shop- will recommend them to anyone, and will definitely use them when I need work done on my car.

Overall

I had a groupon and saw this place has pretty good reviews.I would not even want to give this place one star. I am surprised people are giving good reviews to this place. The lady ( I suppose it is Jimmy's wife) is extremely rude. Right after I made my appointment for state inspection and emission. I agree she gave me the address and asked me to get the documents they had to check. This was 2 weeks before my actual appointment which was at 10 in the morning. On the day of my appointment she calls me at 8 to cancel the appointment(when i just woke up ) and was disoriented. I was not sure whom I was talking to and it took some while for me to understand. This made her assume I forgot my appointment date. I explained it is still 2 hours form the appointment and I would have made it since it is on my schedule. The appointment date she gave me to reschedule didn't work and I had to get done with my schedule. She asked me to cancel the groupon and said I would get money back. I was not intending to do so. I bought the groupon to get the service. Since I was persistent, 10 min into the call she gives me an appointment. (Earlier the same lady didn't have any dates/times available). I am not sure how she got a day and time working all of a sudden.

On the new rescheduled appointment I called in ahead of time to confirm the documents I had to get. She tells me on phone - " I mentioned it at the time of appointment" I don't understand why she has to be rude. I called ahead of time, since I didn't remember.

When I met her she greeted by saying "Hi" just as a formality and was extremely rude. I was also uncomfortable at the time of billing. She did not make any eye contact and was very curt. She did not acknowledge me standing and behaved as if she is doing a favor. I won't ever go this place. The only good thing is that Jimmy was really nice, and cordial the service was quick. There was no wait period.

Based on my interaction with her she may not be suited in a life in customer relations or as a secretary. She neither has the capacity nor the tenacity to work with people. If she has some mechanic skills she should be doing the mechanic work and Jimmy should be doing the customer interaction, since he is really nice and cordial.

Jimmy actually takes the time ...

Jimmy actually takes the time to explain the issues to you, I have never had an experience with a mechanic like this. I was used to dropping and picking my car up and never actually seeing or talking to the person fixing my vehicle! Now not only do I get to speak to the owner, who is the one working on my car, he has actually had me under my car and showed me how it works and why I needed repairs. Would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a trustworthy mechanic!

My response to Marge C, whoeve...

My response to Volvoline

We have been servicing their vehicles on and off since 5/10 and have had nothing but problems with them. At first I was really patient with them, but it quickly began to fade because they were not getting anything fixed, questioned every cent, called repeatedly to find out which parts they could buy online, and taking their cars elsewhere to get fixed cheaper. Last November we basically parted ways, I told them that if all my customers were like them I would go out of business. Yeah it was rude and I shouldn’t have let them get to me.

When she brought her car to me it was in bad shape and was at at-least ONE other shop. We gladly took them in and assumed that they were going to act like normal customers. After spending a few hours testing her rough running engine, I found that her crank sensor’s electrical wires were frayed and if you wiggled them, the car would immediately shut down. After replacing the sensor and taking the car for a road test, she picked it up and drove away. I had also noticed that the exhaust was leaking and her motor mounts were bad causing her engine to shake. Typically I replace every mount when I replace motor mounts, but considering the type of clients I only recommended her motor mounts. Maybe she did also need a transmission mount, but she never brought the car for me to fix. She did however send a bunch of emails asking which parts she needed so they could buy them online for cheap.

Soon after we get a message stating their car would not start, I left a message stating that I would take a look at it for her and bring it back. They never did and took it somewhere else. Almost a month had passed and we get an email stating they wanted us to replace the motor mounts and fix the exhaust for FREE! Why would I do that, I have a family to feed too. If she did need an ignition coil it was purely coincidental and a normal customer would have brought the car back to me immediately.

A lot of mechanics get a bad rap for recommending parts that the car may not need simply to cover their back if their diagnosis is wrong. I only sold her ONE part and it needed it. I could have recommended getting a full tune up, including a coil and a fuel filter, but I only wanted to fix their problem and nothing more. She may have needed an ignition coil but when I had the car it showed no signs of failure. Seems to me that someone is just mad that their unmaintained 1990 Volvo had a compound of problems.

If I could have done anything differently I would have not reacted so harshly when they wanted me to fix their car for free. I should have just explained to them that I don’t do free work unless it’s my fault. I also can’t fix a car if it’s not at my shop. I also can’t take another shops word about a car’s repair it’s hearsay.

For those who want to learn from this, find a mechanic and stick to them. Don’t outsource their recommendations it is insulting and only hurts small businesses. We are not like Monro or Goodyear, there is a fine line between income and expense. We can’t afford to have customers question every dollar just to take their car somewhere else. I still stand by my decision to replace their crank sensor and still know that their motor mounts and exhaust need service. We embrace all customers, but there is still a line that cant be crossed, they crossed it.

Jimmy and Lindsay have always ...

Jimmy and Lindsay have always been nothing less that great with our cars. Sometimes he calls us to show us what he is explaining. It makes you feel apart of your car's repair. I may not know about cars but I like how they explain everything to us. I can trust his quality work. On the side note, I asked if he did body work and he said he was just starting out but could do it as best as he could with spray paint. He only charged me $290 for fixing 3 big holes in my F250's bed and fender's. It took him a pretty long time but it was worth the wait. He welded in new custom steel that he shaped then used used body filler and sanded everything very evenly. He also fixed two dents while he was there too.

Long story short: I will own t...

Long story short: I will own that this negative review is partly my fault. Jimmy's On-It showed itself to be inept and unprofessional a couple times before I was asked to never contact them again. But we'll get back to that. Essentially, Jimmy appears to be a nice guy who is in over his head. He simply shouldn't be running a shop, although he'd probably be decent working under someone else. His gal Friday is abrupt at best and rude at worst. I can't think of any other profession where you can be nasty to people on a regular basis and expect to get paid, so I don't know else she should do. Bitterness management classes? Therapy? Lord knows.

I once took my car to Jimmy for him to work on my tires and got it back without one of the wheel covers. When I asked him about it, he just said he had no idea what happened. No offer to replace it. Yeah. I replaced it. But foolishly, we went back to him when we found ourselves in a tough spot. My 1990 Volvo was having trouble running, and I took it back to Jimmy. He replaced the ignition censor, which got us home, but the next day, the car was dead. I called Jimmy back and told him it wasn't working, and he told me he'd take another look at it. When I told my husband this, I think his exact words were, "Are you crazy?!" So it sat in front of our house for a week. By random coincidence, a guy buying our old refrigerator happened to be an auto tech instructor and correctly diagnosed the real problem -- a bad ignition coil. Oh, and he did this for FREE! (No discount off the cost of the fridge, either.) Anyway, my husband repaired it and I contacted Jimmy. I thought by then I'd find myself at this site, strongly discouraging anyone from using him. I also knew I wouldn't get a refund or any consideration for his screw-up (oh, that cost me $300) but I thought that if he would even agree to look at the car (for another issue) for a discounted price, I wouldn't give him a negative review, I would just never go. Anyway, I asked if I would get a discounted price and this was the response I got:

Please erase our number and email address. Thanks.

That's right -- he used Steve Jobs for evil.

Hey, I'll get over it -- mechanics are right up there with politicians in general. But I took the time to write this as honestly as possible because I found Jimmy on the Internet. And if you're going to spend $300 getting your car repaired, it should at least work. If it doesn't, you should know you have a mechanic who's going to make it right. If you read this and call Jimmy anyway, it's not my fault. I've done my part.

UPDATE (10-14): Jimmy also told me my car needed motor mounts during my last visit. Yeah, and stupid me, I listened, bought them and took them to another mechanic. Turns out I need TRANSMISSION MOUNTS! Seriously, do what you want. But if you plan to take your car to this guy, I would strenuously object. He has no idea what he is doing! NONE!! And for the record, that's $340 he's cost me now. If that's being "on it," I'm good. And I'd love to hear why we were such bad customers, there, James. I can give you reason upon reason why you're the worst mechanic I've ever encountered. Even if we were the worst customers ever, there's no justification in taking someone's money and not doing the job. In some circles, they'd call that theft. The fact that that comment is his only response should tell you everything you need to know about the guy.

I have taken multiple cars to Jimmy including my past two (Ford Contour and a Subaru WRX). Additionally my parents, brother, and aunt have all taken their vehicles to Jimmy with no issues. 10 out of 10!

New to the area, we didn't know where to find a decent, honest mechanic when our car broke down. My son, who lives in Avalon, went through all the routine problems and figured it was the starter - not a cheap or easy fix. After a day of searching: ie, reading reviews, ratings from numerous sites, etc... we found Jimmy. Somewhat daunted by the 1 negative review, we decided to take a chance after considering that the writer was a former classmate and may have written for an ulterior purpose; Jimmy explained later that the guy never told him he had continued to have problems and was shocked to hear what he'd written. He said he would have never intentionally left anyone with a problem like that. We went through the situation with our car and he offered to look at it no charge and fix it no charge if it was something simple like it corroded cable. It turned out to be the starter. He called and went through prices before he did any other work, installed the starter that afternoon and the car was ready to go. He was honest, quick and very reasonable. We would recommend him to any person looking for a mechanic!

A mechanic who is truly On It!

All mechanics can get a bad rap sometimes, believe me I've had my share of experiences. SO its a real pleasure when you deal w/an honest mechanic who is just there to do his job and help you out. Car maintenance and repair is a necessary part of life, and often a pain in the rear end. My experience w/this place though has been simple and painless. I dropped it off, he got me a ride to work and when I came back he explained what needed to be done. We scheduled it, he got it done quickly at my convenience, I paid, a done deal. Simple, easy, convenient, and he was pretty easy on the eyes too so I didnt mind that either. Thanks again Jimmy, see you for my oil change in May. Keep up the great work thanks for making my baby like NEW!
