There are six asian restaurants in this area and this is by far our favorite. While it does not have quite the ambiance of a couple of the other Asian places nearby, it is a very comfortable and cozy atmosphere. The sushi is very fresh and well made, with very high quality ingredients. Their Boston roll and Tai Pei roll are special favorites. The chinese food is always hot, fresh and delicious. My family loves all the food - moo shu, General Tso's (the best anywhere), beef and broccoli, sweet and sour pork and chicken, shrimp with snow peas, fried rice - all great. And they have delightful "Chef's Suggestions" like Imperial Beef, Crispy Prawns, Peking Duck and even flounder, shrimp and scallops and Filet Mignon, all done with a chinese flair. The staff is very friendly and attentive, and service is very good. If you like asian food, try this palce... you'll like it! (The take-out is great too!)
There are 4 Sesame Inns in Pittsburgh and I am going to rank them accordingly here on the consistency of their food. This location on Washington Road is the original and they consistently have good food. You know how some restaurants are hit and miss -- these guys are always dead on! The second location I would recommend is the one in the North Hills, then the one in McMurray, and lastly the one in Station Square. The ones in Station Square, I swear, are the loose cannons -- they just do things however they feel like it. Their dishes are prepared differently than the other ones. So yes... Sesame Inn on Washington Road is where it's at!
I've been there a few times and it's never busy. I'm not sure if it's just the time we go there or if they get most of their business on the weekend. Either way, it doesn't really matter, just strikes me as odd. The server is very nice, always says the same things though. The egg rolls are nice and crispy on the outside, but mushy on the inside and I don't like that. The restaurant needs an update too.
