Neurology
Of Maryland's Shock Trauma Center for 20 years – in addition to being Chief of Psychiatry at Kernan Hospital and Montebello Hospital. As a faculty member at the University of Maryland Medical School, he has taught many of the psychiatrists who practice in the Baltimore area. In addition to having expertise in treating anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder and depression, Dr. Warres (because of his Shock Trauma and Kernan experience) has become an expert in treating individuals with psychiatric problems related to medical illness and physical injury. He believes psychotherapy with a psychiatrist is often very beneficial, and enjoys seeing patients for combined psychotherapy and psychiatric medication management – as warranted for each individual. His solo practice is conveniently located in Pikesville, one block from Reisterstown Road. Dr. Warres, a past president of the Maryland Psychiatric Society, is Board Certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

During the first appointment, which lasts approximately an hour, Dr. Warres tries to learn enough about your current difficulties, background, medical and psychiatric history to begin to formulate a plan for how to help you. To aid in this process, please bring with you any papers or documents which help you provide the following: information about past psychiatric problems, past mental health treatment, past psychiatric medications taken and their effects (both positive and negative), past and current medical problems, medication allergies, and a list of current medications. Please also bring all applicable insurance cards.
Psychiatry
Dr. Warres graduated from Haverford College and the University of Maryland Medical School before training as a Psychiatric Resident and Chief Resident at the University of Maryland Hospital. He completed an elective in Forensic Psychiatry (Legal Psychiatry) with a nationally regarded expert, Jonas Rappeport, M.D. He trained in family therapy with Jay Haley and Cloe´ Madanes – internationally known family therapists. His subspecialty experience was in Consultation-Liaison psychiatry, and he was a psychiatric consultant at the University of Maryland Hospital dealing with patients in various departments including Neurology, Neurosurgery and Surgery. He has held a variety of offices and committee chairmanships with the Maryland Psychiatric Society – including its presidency. He is active in the Maryland Medical Society (Med Chi), is a member of the Baltimore County Medical Society, and is currently President of the Maryland Foundation for Psychiatry. He has taught, lectured, and published on a variety of subjects including psychiatric aspects of care for medically ill hospitalized patients, and psychiatric aspects of recovery from traumatic injury. Dr. Warres’s clinical experience has included caring for head injured patients, patients with amputations, quadriplegia, paraplegia, strokes, geriatric patients, as well as many adults who have attempted suicide, and people suffering from depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. He has treated people of all ages ranging from young adulthood to geriatric patients.
