Pan Asia is our favorite new restaurant after moving to Phoenix 6 months ago. We're pretty well-traveled and lived for many years in San Francisco, so we like to think we know something about good food and good restaurants. This place rocks! When we first moved here there wasn't a really good Asian restaurant anywhere nearby, so we couldn't wait for this one to open. In fact, we were there opening night! Despite the usual hectic nature of an opening, the service was good, and most importantly the food was incredible. We were treated to one of the chef's signature dishes - a black pepper tuna tataki. This dish is so amazing that we order it every time we visit. It has replaced chocolate as my favorite food in the world! The menu is quite varied, and despite several visits we've only tried a small number of the dishes. We haven't been disappointed by anything yet. The ingredients are the best, the flavors are outstanding, and the presentation is pure artistry. The decor and ambience are very tasteful and well-done. The main chefs are also the owners, and both them and their staff are warm and friendly. If you like sushi, chinese food, thai food, or exotic new dishes inspired by a Pacific Rim sensibility then you will find something to like here.
Great authentic Chinese food served in clean attractive surroundings. The wait help was happy to describe the dishes to us - there are so many noodle dishes their suggestions were both necessary and welcome. After he had gone over the menu selections our waiter listened to what we wanted and found some pan fried noodles that met our meet our needs with just a little tweaking. I am very partial to the skinny noodles that can be difficult to find in Arizona. Seafood seems to be a specialty of the house. They have tanks of living seafood in the restaurant, so you're guaranteed it is fresh. The roast duck was cooked to a turn and had very tasty crisp skin. We also ordered a medium spicy eggplant dish that was delicious. The house fried rice had BBQ pork, chicken, shrimp and vegetables in it - yummy. At lunch carts loaded with dim sum tidbits circulate throughout the restaurant. The servers will spend time describing the dumplings and other goodies to you. Everything we tried was wonderful. The tiny custard pies were the perfect way to finish off our meal.
I have been eating at Abacus Inn for the past 20 years. In that time, this restaurant has gone through several owner ships. The food is of superb quality, and of very large portions. Their prices remaining in a lower level range with the economy ( reasonable ). They have had a considerable staff turn over in the past couple of years. But for good reasons. To answer the below reviews, The food can be prepared anyway you like it. This being said, ( extra veggies, spicier, more wontons in the soup, more sauce, sweeter , just about any way you prefer it . Just ask your waiter. The restraunt is very clean, and the owner will listen to any legitimate complaint . He also takes care of them. Try Abacus Inn, You will not be disappointed. Also, they have the best Chinese soup in the city of phoenix. Especially their Hot and Sour soup. Their delivery service is tops. Just remember to ask and thou shall receive. Twains3007
