I'm not a big fan of the new trendy Asian restaurants that are popping up everywhere like Pei Wei and PF Changs. I grew up in NJ where Chinese restaurants were awesome and every one of them had a menu a mile long and had real authentic food. It's hard to find a place like that out here in Phoenix, which is why I was so thrilled when I found Desert Jade. It's far from my house but definitely worth the trip. First of all it has great atmosphere. I like places that have their lights dimme...view mored, candles on the table, and that feel cozy, and I found that here. They have a bar so you can get a Mai Tai or some other rum infused drink with an umbrella. There menu has that mile long list I was looking for. We had the sesame chicken and sweet and sour shrimp, both of which were fabulous. Of course we started with the Poo Poo platter (which for some reason they call the Bo Bo platter) which was great as well. The only thing I was a little sad about was that their egg roll wasn't that great. I'm on a quest to find a big, fluffy, light/green cabbage having (not dark green and slimy), egg roll with tiny shrimp and bits of pork in it like the ones from the east coast. I can't tell you how many egg rolls I've tried in Phoenix and haven't found anything even remotely close. But, egg roll aside, if you like traditional Chinese food, you'll love this place.\rview lessProvided by Citysearch
Desert Jade is a classic, fantastic food, a good atmosphere, service that ensures that your food is out within fifteen minutes and a really interesting decor that resembles a Connecticut library more than a regular Chinese restaurant, though the contrast is quite charming. \r
Foodwise, I would definitely recommend the chicken fruit salad (I thought it was a weird combination as well, but it's delicious), lettuce wraps and sizzling rice soup. These are the standouts, the truly deli...view morecious dishes that I have every time I go. \r
The service is fast, friendly and I'm always pleased with my dining experience. It's great to be able to support a family-owned restaurant with good food, service and that has been around for so long, going on 20 years now.view less
Lived the 1st half of my life in New York and still frequent Chinatown on at minumum of once per year, Desert Jade is not Chinese food. It is the typical Americanized Chinese food. If you are looking for anything that would be considered Authentic, try another restaurant.\r
For Mainstream, Americanized Chinese food, it was OK, the only thing it was missing was the fied noodles to dip in the orange sauce.
I would say I am a hugh Chinese Food guy. I try to find the best places when I travel.
Read some of the reviews and thought I give this place a try. I LOVE IT!!!
I started with the Sizzle Rice Soup. Once that rice hit the soup, it tasted mm mmm good.
then we had three main dishes. The Chicken Chow mein, Pepper Beef, and this wonderful dish called Chicken Lettus!! wow...
P.S...This juandixon guy who give such a ""insightful"" review. Yeah I'm sure there's a place behind the So...view morenic and liquor store. But I would be wary what he is recommending.view less
I highly recommend the Desert Jade. The Shrimp, Pork, Beef, And Chicken dishes are Magnificent! My family were celebrating our Mother's birthday and I was the hero for the night for finding this place. it was the perfect place to have a great night with family and friends.
We are coming back again and would recommend Desert Jade to our families and friends.
I read the last review and thought. Well, I thought 9.0..how bad can it be?
So, I went there and it was awesome!!! I highly recommend the Jade. The menu was well priced and the food was great. try the Hot and Sour soup, It was perfect!!!
also the shrimp dishes were delightful and the service was friendly and fast!!!
Like everything else I experience in life. You gotta try it for yourself...I highly recommend the Jade tho.
Really enjoyed our expierence at this restaurant.I definetly recommend the Tangerine Beef Sauteed Shrimp and Seasame Chicken. Also had the Wonton Soup which was also great. Reminded me of what I used to eat in New York when I was a little child.Provided by Citysearch
After reading the reviews I had expected great food, and stopped in to order takeout. The food came out really quickly, the people were very friendly, but the taste was definately average at best. Sweet and sour chicken was large pieces of sliced meat, highly colored pineapple, very bland taste, vegetables in the chicken/vegetable dish tasted canned, even the dipping sauce was uninspired. Maybe I shouldn't have expected so much but I won't be going back.Provided by Citysearch
