I moved here 8 years ago from Memphis, TN with my two half Irish, half African American boys. It took a year to find a decent barber shop who could cut their hair... and that was just cut it with some clippers... forget a clean line around their heads. Then, I found a spot in Cave Creek that did a better job, but that was quite a drive from Awahtukee! I have finally found an excellent (and very resonably priced) barber shop that is well worth the drive at Zev's New York. I have been taking my boys there now for two years and they always do an excellent job. They are also open on Sundays (I think until 4pm) which is so convenient.
After a good two to three years of looking for a new stylist after the one I had gone to for years retired, I tried Cutters Cottage at the recommendation of a friend. I was given an appointment with Lisa. I finally felt that I had found someone I could work with. I like my hair cut really short and she kept going shorter for me until we got there. I've had numerous compliments both from people I know and from complete strangers, like the lady who yelled "Your hair looks so good" across the plaza in Santa Fe. The shop is really comfortable and laid back and I enjoy the time I spend there.
The service you get is just amazing, definitely old world barber. Hot shaving cream and straight razor on your neck, hot towel wrap on your head and they massage your shoulders. This is all included with a regular haircut, which I might say is always a great haircut. After visting this place 4 times I only get more satisfied with each visit and the prices are great as well. I challenge you to compare them to any barber that your currently happy with.
