Hey Ikat, I completely agree. This place has gone way downhill and lost all charm.\r
Was trying to enjoy a football game with friends. I'd been to Black Sheep in the past and thought that it would be an ideal spot. Horrible mistake. While I was getting off a barstool, the busser told me to ""come on, get out of the way, man"" so that he could head outside and light the cigarette already in his mouth. Have worked at multiple restaurants and never seen a guest treated this way. \r ...view more
Once we finished mediocre food and non-fresh pints, no one cleared our plates away for 30 minutes. We were only a party of 5, but the waitress added a 20% gratuity to our check. We explained the siutation and that it was clearly not worth it, but got nowhere with the cover-my-own-butt management. I'm a Philadelphia resident that lives close by, but won't be going back.view less
I live and work in the city. I had friends visiting town and we decided to go out in the Rittenhouse area.\r
We stopped by the Black Sheep for its casual, unpretentious atmosphere.\r
Instead, from the point we set foot in the bar, we were greeted with rude service and major attitude from the bar hands and bartender. The bar seemingly draws a regular, abrasive, scruffy looking crowd-- who scoff at the sight of any well-dressed newcomers. Overall, the bar was unfriendly, dirty and dark...view more, filled with a bunch of hostile nerds. I will be sure to tell everyone I know to boycott this place.view less
We're big on lunch after church - (see my other reviews). If you go to Saint Mark's on Locust, here's a good stop in. The service is very, very slow but lunch is pretty good. The price is average. Try the banger and mash (sausage and mashed potatos), or the fish fry. The Pulled Pork is very spicy ( no warning on the menu) and the French Toast is, well - not worth the price ( two fat slices of bread for ten dollars?). This bar is a fun place to party hard with friends! Yes, the staff gets busy @ times - but just think of them as tough, not rude :) Great beer selection, best place to watch play off games in the city. This is one of my favorite bars that I always take out-of-town friends to during their visits.
I USE TO like this pub a lot I have been here on several occasions, for my birthday or just for a night out with friends. Maybe its because they won awards and it got to their heads, but in the past few months, the service has sharply declined and so has the food. The main point of this review is this.... I made a reservation a week in advance for dinner at 8PM on a weeknight. Yes, a popular time, but when we arrived (at 7:45 nonetheless) they told us that they were all full and gav...view moree our table away to a ""big group"". The hostess was trying to pull every lame excuse on us as to why she had just given the table away. On top of that, she was rude and didn't even apologize for the inconvenience and because of it, I will NEVER go here again.view less
My husband and I had dinner in the second floor dining room on Saturday night. It was great to have a non-smoking environment that was actually seperate from the smoking (downstairs). Our server was attentive and pleasant - he even treated us to a couple of hard-ciders to participate in a taste test with him. The curry mussles were fantatastic and the crabcakes were some of the best I've had in the city. I'm looking forward to bringing friends next time.
The hubby had a Guinness and the fish and chips, I had a cocktail and the grilled tuna sandwich...the food was phenomenal! Bothe served with mixed greens tossed in a vinagrette and extremely crunchy, yet tender fries (I'm NOT a fries lover, but these were yummy!) some type of pickled ginger/slaw was absolutely delicious especially rounding out the fish. All served on a huge platter...great value and good eats!
