The best (and cheapest) place for honest, weekday breakfast (weekends tend to get too crowded, which slows down service). I love to go in during the week when I get a day off and take part in the simplest, most satisfying breakfast around: 2 fluffy scrambled eggs, roasted then pan fried potatoes and a hearty, homemade biscuit with seeded raspberry jam. Sure, it could use a new coat of paint and maybe a new dessert case, but it's charming and unpretentious and the refills on coffee are free :) I also really recommend the blueberry muffins that never cease to disappoint me (unless they've run out!).
I'm going to guess that the people who left not-so savory reviews had their Pink Rose experiences on a Saturday or Sunday. Go on a weekday!

These were the worst cupcakes I've ever had. My friend served them at her birthday party as desserts and...God, they were like sandpaper cupcakes. And they had a nice topping of frosting, which was ruined by the overkill of hot pink and purple airbrushed color. I'm not sure what brand of color they use, but, as a pastry professional, I know of relatively inexpensive brands that don't have that bitter food dye taste. Even if not, just spring for the higher price with less dilution so that you don't need to use as much color. Either way, these cupcakes were totally inedible, evidenced by the thirty or so partially-eaten cupcakes left on everyone's dessert plate.

I have been a customer a few times and can handle the issues with lack of cleanliness and the people lying on the booth as though it is a shelter. What I cannot tolerate is just how rude and lazy the people working behind the counter are--to paying customers. Their pastries aren't even fresh.
I will go to any and every other shop in town before I ever return. Famous 4th St. Deli has better cookies anyway.

This place is overrated, at least it USED to be (judging by these bad reviews), i guess now its rated appropriately. They had a good thing, but they've gone down hill, steeply. Food is dry, unattractive, bland, and overpriced. Service is terrible. Yes, it is a cute shop, but a little cuteness doesn't make up for bad taste, bad attitude, bad prices.

This used to be one of my favorite places for dessert. I used to be crazy about the banana cream pie! Unfortunately, the quality of the food, the quality of the service, and the atmosphere have all gone down hill over the past few years. Now, the banana cream pie looks like it was tossed in a blender prior to being slapped on the plate in a most unflattering manner. It tastes like they ran out of sugar and decided to use salt instead (?What the hell, it?s white and our customers are stupid!?). Actually, if you go there for dessert, you may actually be stupid. Who wants to pay $10 for a piece of pie that tastes nasty, looks nasty, in an atmosphere that is nasty, with staff that are nasty?

Once upon a time in the food service industry, it was believed that creating a pleasant dining experience for a customer was of the utmost importance. It makes sense since it?s the consumer who determines if an establishment stays in business or not. At the Pink Rose, it?s quite obvious they no longer follow this logic. Having received their last culinary award in 1994, I?m really wondering how they?ve managed to stay in business this long. My experience was absolutely terrible not to mention downright uncomfortable. To begin with my server was impatient and unpleasant. The menu she gave me had a sticky residue left over from what I can only assume was a previous customers unfortunate dining experience and the guy behind the counter just gave me the creeps. At this point I should have grabbed my boyfriend and left but we remained optimistic and ordered. What a mistake. My dessert looked like something salvaged from last week?s garbage (it was cracked, dry and missing the top corner) and the cappuccino my boyfriend had was less than stellar. When the check came for our disappointing dessert, I almost threw up my ugly tart back onto my plate. The price was outrageous considering the condition of the food and it's presentation. I would not recommend this place to anyone!!

I remember going to the Pink Rose a few years ago and having a great experience - not anymore. I went there this past week and from the minute my girlfriend and I entered the building it was a bad experience. The place didn't seem that clean, the person behind the counter seemed like a miserable human being, and the atmosphere sucked - especially with the tv on full blast in the back. We were listening to mattress commercials in the background during our whole time there - WTF? But 2 things really stuck out: the waiter gave us menus and then stood over us and waited with a ""are you f'n ready?"" look until we ordered, which was completely rude and weird - and the key lime pie we ordered was at least 2 days old and looked terrible when it was brought out. It just looked like it was thrown on the plate. Not to be a stickler, but if you're paying $6 for a piece of pie, it should at least be fresh and presented nicely. I would not recommend this place to anyone - maybe it was a Pink Rose a couple of years ago, but now it's more like skunk cabbage!
