After living in Philly for two years, I still hadn't found a salon I thought charged reasonably and still did a good job. Luna has tiered pricing, and the lower tier fit my budget, (though I'm not 100% sure what it's based on, experience?), so I figured it was worth a shot. I've been back at least five or six times since to see KC, and she's wonderful. She always remembers what we talked about last, even if my last appointment was months ago. She made great suggestions when I said I needed a style change. She even advised me on a more economical way to get the color I wanted, and made it a lot less intimidating. Granted, it was a simple all-over semi-permanent color, she still did a fantastic job. Overall, I'm definitely a fan, and have recommended Luna to friends in need of a good place to go.

Ok... I just want everyone to know I am not a picky person, I have gone to MANY salons that were 40 dollars for a hair cut and color and was perfectly fine with the service and loved my hair color and everything. This is by FAR THE WORST SALON I HAVE GONE TO. I have NOOOOO idea why this salon got so many good reviews and WHY they charge $200 to get my hair colored??? WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY THAT WAS!\r \r I went in to see Marti and she is a very very nice and bubbly person I have nothing bad to say about her she is super nice. The people at the front desk were really short and not polite at all though. Right as I walked in and went up and told them I was there to see Marti they instantly told me to sit down without saying hello or anything. I was almost going to walk out after that but decided not to because I didn't want to judge ""a book by its cover"". When Marti came up I felt sooooo much better she was super nice and everything but she was not professional at all.\r \r I told her I wanted to dye my hair blonde and she did so. But she only processed my hair for like 10 minutes I was SUPER surprised because thats the shortest I have ever been under the dryer for. But I was like ok well maybe it just processed faster this time not sure. Once I got all my hair dried she didn't style it at all. I went in for a cut and I told her to trim my bangs and she didn't after me telling her 3 times that I wanted them trimmed. She abruptly said ok your done and I was surprised because she basically dried my hair and that was it. My hair was still frizzy.\r \r I was in total shock that I just paid for the services (when I should have put up a fight but I didn't) and told myself I would NEVER come back here. I have literally been like 15 salons or more in my life and this is by far the worst salon I have been to. I wouldn't pay for their services if they charged $50 because I have gotten better colored for that price NO JOKE. I got in the car and my husband instantly said ""It looks good... but wait I can still see your roots""... SHE DIDNT EVEN COLOR UP TO MY ROOTS. YOU COULD SEE OVER A CM of my natural color...\r \r I never ever have written a review for any place at all in my life but I came and looked at these reviews and saw that they were good and that maybe it was worth 200 dollars but NOT EVEN CLOSE. DO NOT PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. If you are ever in the Washington State area (which is where I am from) I will give you like 10 salons names that will do better color and the price will be a LOT cheaper.\r \r Marti was really kind and sweet but seriously NOT WORTH $200 AT ALL.\r \r Please excuse my punctuation and spelling I am in quite a hurry but really wanted to get this out.

I moved out to Philly about three years ago and started going to Luna Salon after reading reviews. I went to Kelly and have been going back ever since. I love the salon, everyone is nice. Kelly is GREAT. Almost every time I go in I have asked for a new look or to try something new. Most of the time I just give her a basic idea and let her go with it, my hair has turned out great every time. Kelly is very knowledgable and really listens to what you want. I also think she really understands her clients because every time I go in and let her just do what she thinks is best it turns out great. I have never felt like she has wanted to rush me out of the chair, she takes her time. As long as I am in the area I will continue to go to Luna and see Kelly.

I just got a cut done my marti and it looks amazing! she did exactly what i asked and gave me excellent styling tips as well. i was nervous about getting bangs but she did them perfectly. love love love this haircut and marti!

I have actually been to 5 salons in the past 4yrs (job related moves). I have always read reviews online and gone off recommendations of friends/co-workers to find salons. I must say that I had a wonderful hair cut. Mae did exactly what I wanted. I do not have difficult hair, it is straight, long and at the time full of split ends. Mae listened to what I wanted (i.e. I don't style my hair because it's straight and drys nicely.) So she cut it in a way that makes it look great! Thanks! I would recommend this salon.

Went to May a few months ago for my first cut - did a great job. Went back for a trim after that - May cut my hair again - terrible!!!!! I have been growing this disaster out for months. Not what I asked for at all. I will not be going back.

The Worst Hair Cut of My Life

I had a cut in January and I am still suffering. I had been to Luna once before and had a cut by May. May did a nice job. This time I went to another girl with crazy blonde hair, short in some places and long in others. She cut the top of my hair so short (4 inches in length in some places - my hair is past my shoulders). There doesn't seem to be any pattern to the haphazard way she cut the top of my hair. I will be waiting years for it to grow out properly. She was a very sweet girl but obviously inexperienced. Also, from the moment I arrived it was as if I was stuck in an infomercial for Bumble & Bumble. I have never experienced a place that pushed products so much. It was really a turn off. If I like the way a product smells or feels I will ask what it is. Starting with the shampoo girl, she described every detail of every product and why it was soooo terrific. Complete overkill! I will not be returning to Luna. Also, it was very slow on a Friday afternoon. I can't imagine why.

Kelly gave me an entire new look after having the same old boring hairstyle for years. She's awesome. And the best part is she's really nice and not snobby at all which is a rarity for a upscale salon in the middle of a big city. So glad I found her!

I went to Kelly for the first time to get a ""new"" look for my birthday. I told her I wanted front bangs, and she patiently explained what to expect. She also gave me the option of keeping them a little long, so that I can get a sense of how they would look, and if I liked them, she would shorten them. She was great!! I was very very happy!!

GASP! GAAAAAAASSSSPPPPP!! I just hopped on to City Search to leave my first review for Luna Salon. I've been coming to Luna, specifically Marti, for just over a year now, and have been meaning to leave a glowing review, only to find a one star slashing of not only my favorite salon but my favorite stylist! GASP GASP GASP! That was very disturbing to read. Not at all what I was expecting to see here, especially after experiencing a lovely high today after having my best cut EVER!! Wow, I need a moment. Breatheeee phew. OK. I""m ready. So, anyway, in light of what was written below, in combination of my own guilt for not having written my review long ago praising Marti and Luna I'm probably going to sound overly complimentary. But, it's what I feel so I'm going with it. First, I moved here a year ago from San Francisco, CA - a mecca for design in all forms, so I take the art of hair design very seriously! That said, Marti is very talented, and listens carefully to what you want, and is especially gifted at interpreting a vision that you may not have the capacity to describe in ""hair talk"", which is a rare quality, I've learned. Over the last year, I received five cuts (my hair is medium/long with lots of wiggle room for styling)When I thought she could not give me a better cut, she would do something I wasn't expecting that I liked more. I finally decided to go short, and i've never felt comfortable in all my 34 years to take this leap. With Marti, I did. And I love it! Marti is not too afraid to offer alternative ideas to allow you the option to choose. I'm sincere when i say, I've never found a stylist who I've liked more. When you find some one like Marti, you will want to keep her around! She's talented, and ""gets me"" and my hair! She can pull off what you couldn't even articulate you wanted, and gives you something you love every time, to the point where you don't think she can top it the next time. She always tops it. I got the worst hair cut in years last Friday by Marti. It has no style. My bangs just stick up. I could tell by the way she cut my hair that she didn't know what she was doing. I wish i hadn't left her such a big tip.. but I felt bad because of our current economy. Luna isn't worth the price they charge. I paid $40 with coupon and my hair looks like the way it did when I was younger and my parents took me to the cheap hair cuttery places in the mall (except those places only charge you 20 bucks for a hair cut). I will never go back to this place! If you decide to go, ask for the person with the most experience!

This place is awesome. Excellent atmosphere and friendliness as well as personalization of service. Kelly was very informative and patient and did exactly what I asked for while maintaining her professional judgment. My hair is very difficult to deal with but she took the extra time and care to cut it properly and made sure she was doing what I wanted. Really friendly and laid-back, and totally professional. I am picky and am soo pleased.\r \r Compared to the rubbish $50 haircuts I have gotten before, this was a great deal. Absolutely recommend them to everyone!

I've been getting my hair cut by Kelly for the past few months and I ALWAYS get compliments on the style and cut every time. I even have complete strangers complimenting me. That, plus I've recommended her to a couple of friends who are also extremely happy. and they've told people and so it goes. I have nothing but great things to say about Kelly and the rest of the staff. Getting a haircut here is always a relaxing experience because I don't have to worry about a chop job.

Luna's is the best salon in Philadelphia: hands down. I arrived at the salon with hopes high and I left feeling totally rejuvenated and happy with my new look. Luna's was the first salon that came to mind because I heard great reviews from it and it was a good distance from where I live. Everyone there is very welcoming and approachable. I was so nervous because I've had long hair my whole life and I aimed for a more sophisticated look. I did not know anyone's strengths/weaknesses for hair styling so I was in for a surprise. I asked for an A-line bob. I put it into detail as to how I wanted it to look, the texture,etc. Kelly is a great stylist and I definetly recommend her. She knew exactly what I was talking about and shot for something better. I absolutely love my haircut and I can't stop running my fingers through it!\r Luna's Salon gets TWO thumbs up!!! \r ~ Kami

Luna was a great experience. May cut my hair, who I would definitely recommend to anyone going. She's very talented-- and received her education from beauty school in London. I visited Luna after having tried to ask different stylists to be ""creative"" for the last 5 years and yet continually looking the same after the hairspray and styling had washed out of my hair two days after I left different hair salons.\r \r May is awesome. She is meticulous and understands hair and will create something for you that will last long after the salon experience. \r \r The pricing is a little expensive (what kept me back at first) but it's worth it in the end, especially if you only get your hair cut infrequently. I would absolutely recommend Luna. I, for one, will be going back a lot!
