I absolutely love this place. I've brought a few dates to this restaurant. The service is awesome and their food is great. We were always quickly seated every time. Never ordered wine so I cannot help there. I was never rushed through my dinners. Did a great job of creating a romantic atmosphere. I usually went at night on a weekday so maybe you should take that into consideration. There is parking right across the street which is great. I spent about $100-$150 per dinner which includes drinks, appetizers, and entrees for 2 people. Up to you to say if it's expensive.

Value not great, but experience good

Our waitress was very knowledgeable about their wines, which was helpful. Seemed that appetizers were a great value--very large, quite delicious. But the pastas were tiny, and the entrees were basically a la carte. $24 for four scallops with a couple of braised artichoke hearts. It was a bit silly. Delicious, though, it's just that my Big American Appetite thought it was a bit skimpy on the size.

Save your money

My wife and I dined there on a Saturday night. While the decor is nice, the tables are too close, making for tough conversation. The food was Ok but nothing to write home about. Portions are miniscule. My wife had chicken for $32. I had a special that consisted of three aspargus spears, four pieces of half dollar size (and not not much thicker than) hanger steak, and one poached egg.. The antipasta for $6 was the best part of the meal. Bill came to $110 not including tip. No bottle of wine just two drinks..

The BEST Italian that I have had in a long long time (and I live in NYC!) The GEMELLI WITH TRUFFLE BUTTER is the most flavorful pasta I have EVER had. Leave room for dessert, even if its only for sorbet...it is tart and fruity sitting on top of a huge marshmallow-DELISH

Not a good choice for vegetarians

I recently had dinner at Angelina. I loved the decor, but I am vegetarian, and was disappointed with the lack of flexibility with the menu options. The menu is designed as an Italian-multi-course meal. Although there are great choices for salads and appetizers, unfortunately, none of the main course selections are vegetarian. All were either meat or fish. The restaurant would not provide an alternative vegetarian main course and the waitress looked annoyed when I inquired! Instead, I had to combine two pasta appetizer dishes and was charged double for them. I dont think this is fair, and it takes away from the enjoyment of the multi-course dining experience for vegetarians. If you are vegetarian, I would recommend only coming here for drinks and appetizers or desserts.

Lunch was unimpressive

Angelina is another restaurant in the Steven Starr ""empire"" in Philadelphia.

The restaurant is very small and cramped, I'm all for intimacy- but intimacy with the people dining next to me isn't quite what I had in mind.

The crispy calamari with fried lemons was some of the best I've ever had. The fried lemons are an excellent, simple, yet unheard of idea.

I got the pork and broccoli rabb panini. It was good, a solid sandwich, but I wasn't impressed.

The apple and caramel torte was delcious, something to check out.

Who's Their Decorator?

I didnt really know the word toile (pronounced twaal) until I ate here. Think red and white-patterned old fashioned overstuffed sofa. The same pattern covers the walls and seats its everywhere you look and its very distracting and way overdone. But on to what really matters, the food which was fantastic. We shared a Bacon & Egg appetizer which was pureed salt cod and potato over a toasted baguette, with a poached egg on top, surrounded by pancetta and greens. It was amazing! Both entrees, the rib eye steak as well as the bronzino (whole fish) were also extraordinary. The shared chocolate dessert was also very good. With a bottle of wine, before tip, the bill came to $110. Now, if they could only make the room look as good as the food . . . . .

I not only had some of the most fantastic Italian food in Philly yet, the service was unbeatable. Our waitress not only knew everything there was to know about the menu, she made some recommendations that I never would have even tried. It made for an unforgettable dining experience!

One of the best restaurants in Philly

My wife and I had a wonderful dining experience at Angelina last night. Instead of wine, we had cocktails (for something refreshing try the caravaggio, for something sweeter, the vespa). The eggplant parmigiana was delicious. As main course, we shared a bronzino that was simply out of this world (you can spend years in the Mediterannean and not find better-tasting fish). The rib eye steak was also succulent and probably of the best steaks that we've ever had - in my opinion, better than most professional steak houses. Overall, a bit expensive but worth every damn penny.
