I went to anns for awhile when it first opened (about winter2009-10) and I loved the way my nails looked, but it did not take long to catch onto things... For starters, the employment around there is sketchy. I would pick a tech who did a great job, find out her name and told her i would recommend/request her, but when I came back for a refill 2 weeks later they had quit/been fired which I never understood. This happened at least three times to a tech whose work I actually loved. Second, too be completely honest, Ann is a very sweet lady... with a very good imagination. She told me many different stories that contradicted eachother. The first time I seen a male tech sitting next to her I asked if they were married and Ann told me "no I'm single" from then on, everytime I went in there she referred to him as her husband. The last time I was in there she told me she was engaged..... WHaaatt?!? Completely irrelevant to the service I know, but it's very strange. And the man who was her so called husband is IGNORANT like are you working for tips or what? He is very shaky and has cut me time and time again with the tool I like to call "the buzzer" he cuts your cuticles and has, on more than one occasion, scraped my fingertips with those things! Without an apology might I add. He also did friends of mine and has scraped into my friends nail, causing her to pull her hand away and he YELLED AT HER?? (God bless Ann). Lastly they really do take their time on your nails. I usually would spend no less than 2 hours including wait and dry. I also have gotten pedicures here and they don't know when enough is enough when it comes to the nail file. Also, this may just be me, but I've never been charged extra for French on my toes (besides here). You will switch techs constantly, often due to Shakes and Ann taking cigarette breaks... Nice right? Also, Pay attention to the price list. It is not out of the ordinary for Ann to pull a price out of thin air because she thinks she can trick you .. I once corrected her and saved myself about $8. And if youre looking for an eyebrow waxing, go to Unique on the same side of holme ave down the street just beyond the roundabout. They do a 10x better job for half the price. The atmospheres nice, always have game shows on, really talented people but its just not worth the wait. I would only go here again in desperation or to hear one of Ann's fairytales.
Fairfield, IA 5.0 star rating Update - 9/18/2012 I want to tell you about an amazing hair care professional. His name is Daniel Citro and he is extremely knowledgeable about hair. His talent really shines when giving a haircut. I am very picky about my hair. I first met Daniel in Princeton NJ. I was referred to him by a skin care specialist who trained and worked in NYC. When I called to make an appointment with him (after going to him twice) I discovered he had left. I made a concerted effort to track him down. I found him at the Adolf Biecker Salon in Philadelphia. When he gives a haircut, my hair looks good without having to use a curling iron, etc. I can blow it dry and it looks great. I have shoulder length plus hair. After he cuts it, when I pull it back, it looks full and even. I can not say that about cuts from some other people I have encountered. I currently live in the Midwest. I wait to get my hair cut when I travel East. If I need to, I just have it trimmed until I can make an appointment with him. Just describe to him what you would like. He will make every effort to accommodate your wishes, but will give you his opinion. I have learned a great deal about caring for and styling my hair by listening to him. Daniel has trained in Italy and has worked and (I believe) trained in New York also. In my opinion, he is highly respected in his profession. If you are looking for someone to give you a truly great haircut, book an appointment with Daniel. Just do it! You won't be sorry. Enjoy! If you are in a hurry and choose the valet parking, they validate your ticket for a 25% discount.
Nail designs to die for! - very unique and expertly painted on nails - designs to fit any personality/occassion. Look for the jigsaw puzzle, animal print, designer symbols, tie dye and candy/food designs (painted on ice cream cones look so real you want to lick your finger!) But if you are looking for customer service, well that's a completely different story. Seems to me that their designs is what keeps the high volume of customers but I believe that it has aslo made them cocky like they don't have to provide good customer service. If ever you go on a Saturday and cannot be there 1/2 hour before the store open then wait for another day - too many people, long wait. Despite their lack of customer service and cash only policy I give them a 5 star rating because of the compliments I get on my hands when I receive services here.
