Well I have to start off by saying that this bakery is great! I always buy the yellow cakes I think they are the best. The yellow cakes are tasty, light and fluffy. You can taste the real butter and extracts that are used to prepare the cake. I really don't care for the pound cake, but that is because I don't like heavy thick cakes from anywhere. I am always confused at birthday parties when the grown ups get the pound cake for the kids, and the kids just lick the iceing off the cake and just leave a block on their plate. Just buy the yellow cake! DUH!!! The cake at the party is not just for you!. The cookies, cupcakes, and dinner rolls from Denises are also delicious. Denises is worth the money, and by the way they are not even that expensive like other upper class bakeries like Bredenbecks etc etc. To me the cake even tastes better. The only negative things I can say about Denises is that the wait to order and pick up is RIDICULOUS!!!! Please find a better way to do things. Sometimes I want a Denises cake but I just simply do not feel like the wait, therefore it pushes me to go to Sams Club and pick up a cake. Please find a better system. Those numbers, long lines out of the door, and terrible parking is torture on your customers. I know that you are getting enough money to expand and get a bigger place. Please try, I still luv you but something has got to give!

While walking up the street from our last stop on a trolley tour, we were looking for a good place to have a hot lunch on a very cold and windy day in Philly. Walking into the restaurant and out of the bitter cold we noticed the wood fire oven glowing and giving the nicely decorated restaurant warmth and a sense of comfort. We passed by a table of diners who ordered 6 of the wood fired pizzas that were spread out on their table looking beautifully delicious. The menu had some great offerings and if was difficult to choose just one thing for lunch. A loaf of warm bread and a small bowl of seasoned olive oil was brought to our table with our sodas. It was a delicious dipping appetizer. We ordered the brushetta which was good but the tomato mixture was very cold sitting on the warm toasted bagette slices. I wish it would have been room temperature.. My son had a wood fired pizza, I had the gnocchi and my husband had the homemade ravioli. All 3 lunches were terrific. The tomato sauce on both the ravioli and the gnocchi was flavorful and creamy. The portions were just right for us and we left feeling satisfied at this last meal we would be eating in Philly for this visit. Wait staff was attentive and ready to refill sodas when they were almost empty. I am looking forward to visiting Pizzicato again when I travel to Philly in April.
Ok, this restaurant was so pleasing to the eye and warm to the heart, I had to check it out. When first walking in, I felt immediately at home. Comfortable enough to seat myself, I felt like I was visiting a family get together around the holidays. Everyone was friendly, laid back, and there was a nice commradery amongst all the people there for dinner. You could be there with friends, your whole family-children included, or out for a romantic evening with your loved one. Either way, was very inviting. Now for the food... I am pretty picky with food. Difficult to find a reasonably priced meal, that was prepared with love, fresh natural ingredients, and a crisp, authentic, NON-greasey pizza crust. Well, this place is it and definately EXCEEDED my own personal expectations, preferences and standards--as well as those I was with. To top it off, the owner made sure to make his way around the tables to greet customers, meet up with old friends and check in to see how you enjoyed your meal. All while the restaurant filled up with it's Friday night crowd. I LOVE this place and I didn't even mention the SCRUMPTIOUS, afforable desserts! :b But hey, don't just take my word for it, check it out for yourself!
