I am a 43 y/o male that had been in pain in my lower back and hip for years. I am also Very active, and had tried everything from courtisone injections to chiropractors to ease the pain : nothing worked. A friend reccomended Dr. John Waldroup of the Hughston clinic To make a long story short, i needed a total hip replacement, so we scheduled the surgery for Friday 09/23/11 @ Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital. I cannot express enough how proffesional the staff was from the moment arrived. The replacement was performed about 1 1/2 hours after my arrival and completed in about an hour. I awoke in the recovery room, then was transferred to "my room" where my wife was waiting. The pain was bearable the nurses were great in finding the pain medication that worked for me (medicines arent the same for everyone i learned). Fortunately i had researched and was given upon arrival the exercises that i woulld need to perform so by 4pm that evening i started the basic ones. I compare the pain as similar to the second day of football practice, just a bit more sore. By 7 am Saturday i had started the more difficult exercises, by lunch i was walking (with the walker) up and down the halls with no human assistance. Each time a visitor came i had to show them that i could walk as this was amazing to me. Of course this is Saturday and football was on the TV which makes your adrenaline rise (i had a couple of nurses that were football fans too and watched the games with us also showed us the deer out the room window) that evening we had fried fish with all of the sides,by far better than what we cook at home. Sunday am Dr. Waldroup came in to visit, told me that he had heard that i wanted to go home, (i was already told that it was a 3-4 day stay) so with his raw sense of humor Dr. Waldroup said "3 to 4 days no exceptions" pause "except this time". I was sitting at my home in my recliner within 48 hours of surgery, amazing. Within a week i didnt need the walker,, two weeks only used the crutch when walking over 100 feet.at week three i was back at work. A month removed, and the only thing i am upset about is i should have done it years earlier. . I am walking better now than i have in years and really feel as thoughi will be as good as ever in a couple more weeks. My results may not be typical, but if you put forth the effort to exercise and work through the pain you will also be greatful. Thanks to everyone at Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital.

I had to visit this hospital twice in order to drop off specimines for their lab. The first time it took me an hour to drop off, the second it was closer to two hours. Each time the lab tech and the receptionist walked back and forth in front of me in an empty waiting room talking and swapping stories before they deemed to nitice I was there. The fee for the pleasure of being ignored was minimal, so I wrote a check to get rid of any commitment I may have had to this institution. two months later I receive a notice that they are going to turn me over to a collection agency for a check they cashed two months prior. I called them to sort through the mess, and was told that I had to spend more money to go to my bank and get a copy of the check to show them that they cashed it. Not only is this a substandard institution, but they are obviously more interested in finding ways to steal from people than help them.

Great Service

Great Hospital! All of the staff members were pleasent, great food, and they provided cot, bedding, etc to allow me to stay w/ my spouse comfortably. We had no wait from check in to getting a room. The longest wait was waiting on the surgeon, but otherwise all service was timely.

My First Experience

My experience was terrible. I entered the ER on Satruday, May 2nd. I listed the reason for my visit as "Difficulty Breathing" and I waited to see a doctor for more than two hours. The service was terrible not to mention they never took an exray or did and testing. They gave me a breathing treatment and then sent me home. I will never return to the facility again.
