Dr Iqbal and his staff were are wonderful. I have 2 puppies, one I purchased and one I rescued. My little rescue was seriously ill and they saw me right away and every day for the next 5 days (they are open on Saturday and Sunday) which were some of the days I was there. The staff is WONDERFUL as was Dr Iqbal, he suggested surgery, and thank goodness he did, my little puppy had swallowed a sewing pin and was in his stomache wall touching his liver only being held by a thread that would eventually deteriorate with his stomachs acids and head towards his heart! I called every hour and they were SO compassionate and reassuring. I NEVER write reviews for anything, but felt compelled to let anyone who is looking for a caring veterinarian and staff, they are truly amazing. My little boy is on the mend and I am one happy Mom.

Yesterday I took my 1yr 4mo old Dog, Cosmo in for routine vaccinations. Within minutes of receiving the shots and literally as we were on our way out the door, I realized that something was VERY wrong. Cosmo was laying on the floor unresponsive and his breathing was extremely labored. I immediately alerted Erin who was at the front desk. She then immediately alerted Dr. Iqbal of the situation. Erin remained calm and reassured me that Cosmo was in good hands. Dr. Iqbal and Shelby, one of the assistants worked vigorously to stabilize Cosmo. After what seemed like an eternity, but was probably closer to 15min Dr. Iqbal came out and advised me that Cosmo had gone into anaphylactic shock, and that the situation was extremely serious. By this time He had lost control if his Bowels, was having a hard time breathing, his blood pressure has plummeted and he was still virtually unresponsive. He informed me that Cosmo needed IV fluids as well as Benadryl administered intravenously, and that would need to be there for at least the next several hrs. Definitely not what you expect from a "simple" trip to the vet for routine vaccines. But I'm SO thankful for the professionalism that the staff maintained throughout this terrifying situation as well as the amazing care they gave to our fur baby. It is because if them that Cosmo was able to overcome this potentially life threatening reaction. Cosmo was able to come home, where he's doing much better.
Anaphylaxis in dogs is not just an ordinary or even a severe allergic reaction to something that your dog has ingested or has been injected with. It goes well beyond the severe stage, as it is the most sudden and violet reaction that will ever attack your dog. Without exception, if it is not treated as a life threatening emergency, it may be the last reaction to anything that your dog will ever have. Although it is considered rare, it will be anything but rare if it attacks your dog as it can literally take their life right before your eyes.

What is it?

Anaphylaxis in dogs is a very sudden and extremely violent allergic reaction that is most commonly associated with a recent vaccination. Although this may be true, it by no means is the only potential cause. In fact, there are several potential causes and they are referred to as anaphylactic allergen reactions. These forms of allergen can be the result of some type of drug totally separate from a vaccination, an insect sting, as well as some type of food.

There are also some in the medical community that suggest that the actual cause outside of a vaccination may be a type of rubber or plastic your dog has come into contact with, but this has yet to be documented. However, whatever the actual cause is, it is triggered by antibodies that your dog’s immune system has recently produced. These antibodies can cause inflammatory cells such as basophils and mast cells to release substances that cause this violent reaction. Anaphylaxis in dogs in reality is not much different than a common allergy in its overall nature

Praise for Dr. Iqbal and his dedicated staff at Family Pet Hospital in Perry Hall! We have been taking our puppy there for the last 3 months and have been pleased with the very thorough care she has gotten. After each visit, we receive a follow-up call the next day to see how she's doing. We recently had her spayed and she will return for a post-op visit. Their caring and professional manner make the hospital visits pleasant and they are truly dedicated to preventive health care. I would recommend them highly to any pet owner.

We were very lucky to find Family Pet Hospital as our dog was ill and our regular vet was closed. Doctor Iqbal was wonderful. He examined our dog and did a full blood work up. The staff was very friendly and professional. Test results and x-rays were sent to us through email. I don't know what we would have done with out them!

We purchased a puppy from Just Puppies(Another story there just don't go there) within days she was very very sick. Dr. Iqbal was professional and thorough in his examination. The ladies working the front were courteous and very friendly especially in our time of need. Our poor puppy, Bella, was losing weight and very lethargic. Dr. Iqbal and his staff took the time to work with us to get to the root cause of Bella's issues. The office called daily not only to see how Bella was but us as well. As a Software Engineer I truly appreciate Dr. Iqbal's use of technology, they have a Facebook Page, he takes pictures and sends us the X-rays to our email. I would recommend Dr. Iqbal and his team to everyone. Today our Bella is as ornery as ever as all puppies should be! Thank you to Family Pet Hospital for taking care of our new family member.

I have a new puppy. My family ...

I have a new puppy. My family and I have fallen in love with him. I have brought the puppy to Family Pet Hospital for all his vaccines. Then for a emergency visit. Every visit I received respect and professionalism. It starts with the ladies @ the front desk assuring me that they would take good care of 'Willie.' They were so kind, while I was worried sick. Then Dr. M.Iqbal took the pup and examined him such care. His diagnosis was clear and easy for me to understand. That made me feel like I could breath again!

'Willie' and I were treated with excellent care!!! :)

We found this vet to be very customer oriented. The staff is well trained and they handle pets with lots of TLC. The vet took his time in explaining all the things that needed to be done for our newly adopted White German Shepard. Customer Service is definitely NOT an oxymoron at this vet's facility. They also send xrays and reports via email. Neat stuff. I would recommend this vet to anyone!!
