Hidden costs, lacking in customer service
This fall has gotten very cold already, so cold that our regular heating system was not enough. We had to fill our propane tank so our kids would be warm at night. Dowdle's was the only one that would fill our tank that day, but we paid for it. Excessively.
First of all, Dowdle's propane costs are definitely not the lowest in town. However, paying a little extra so your children will not be cold as they sleep is worth it. What was not worth it was the $50 extra charge to have the propane delivered in a timely manner. Then, we found out that there was a cracked line. It was late, so the driver said he was unable to get the part right then, but would come by in the morning and fix it. To me, that defeats the whole purpose of the extra delivery charge. We couldn't use the gas we bought when we needed it. (By the way, we had a universal replacement part that night, which he said would not work and refused to use. Turns out, it would've worked perfectly.)
So, the next morning, he showed up almost two hours late with the new part. After he made the repair, he then informed us that it was going to cost even more (the night before he said there would be no cost). Once again, we paid, for the sake of our children.
There was also a line test charge, which at least one other company that I know of does for free.
Oh, and the night he came? The whole time he complained about how he wanted to go home.
